FOREWORD
Accompanying the development of automotive design and technologies, new materials are
widely applied on auto bodies. Today, most unibody vehicles are made of high-carbon steel
instead of soft or medium-carbon steel, which makes a great difference in repair.
After collision, all directional pull must be applied to auto body. To protect passengers at
the second collision, DO NOT heat auto body, which may change metal structure and
reduce metal hardness.
Powered by hydraulic pressure, various tools and accessories, the MAXIMA® Body
Repair System can restore the damaged auto body as original as possible by multipoint
pulling. The measuring system is designed to ensure the accuracy of pulling and to restore
the original dimensions.
During the installation and operation of the system, follow the safety cautions in the
manual to prevent injury. DO NOT exceed the rated load and pressure to avoid damage to
system or injury.
MAXIMA® Body Repair System aims to help restore the damaged vehicles rapidly and
accurately as well as to create convenient and comfortable environment for operators.
This manual is the instruction for MAXIMA® Body Repair Systems. The photos may
change from time to time, please refer to the real object.
3. Installation
(1). Place requirement
The minimum space for MAXIMA equipments is 4 m×9 m smooth concrete ground
with two air joints equipped with separator for oil and water, 0.5~0.8 MPa air pressure
or one 220V power supply plug.
Figure 3-1,
(2). Layout of the equipment
A. Move the equipment to the proper place. The end with cylinder cover should be
facing to the door (Figure3-2). Leave enough space between the edges of the
equipment and wall in order to facilitate the movements of the towers and operations
for the operators.
Figure 3-2
B. Please drill four holes through the holes of the equipment bottom, with the
diameter of 19mm and depth of 75 mm. Put the bolts inside, screw the bolts. Check the
bottom board whether it is distorted or not.

B. Wheel stand ---- Adjust the extension bolt of the wheel stand. Find the right position
hole on the wheel stand, and get the two bolts on the wheel rim into the holes, then
fasten them with the nuts (Figure 4-2).
C. Operations of the electric winch (optional) ---- Fix the winch onto the equipment with
bolts and nuts (Figure 4-3). Open the “output” button on the remote controller to
export the stainless steel rope (Figure 4-4). Put the hook onto the drawable parts of
the vehicle. Connect the power supply, open the “draw” button on the remote
controller (Figure 4-5). Pull the vehicle to the right place, and then fix the wheels of
the vehicle with triangular wood block. Press the “output” button to loosen the
stainless steel rope and the pothook. The rope will be retracted.

5. Vehicle anchoring on the equipment
CC. Plane 0 --- In order to better analyze the vehicle damnification, we regard the
vehicle as a quadrate and divide it into three parts: front, middle and rear (See
figure). The benchmark plane of these three parts is called Plane 0. The
middle of the Complete Vehicle Body and the Frame Vehicle Body is a
high-strength rigidity area. This rigidity area is the basis to measure the
symmetry situation of the auto body. All of the measurements and the
symmetry situations are related with the Plane 0 (Figure 5-3).
Figure 5-4
Figure 5-5
BB. Benchmark Plane ---- The equipment plane is revised during manufacturing
with plane error of 2 mm. This plane can be regarded as the benchmark plane.
All of the measuring tools take it as the benchmark.
C. The reference points of the vehicle
In the MAXIMA Auto Model Data Manual, there are the locations of many reference
points with the dimension of each length, width and height. The reference points
are the protruding and concave points, screw connectors, holes, etc. They are
used for measuring and inspecting whether the vehicle recovers to the former
dimensions. The distance between the reference points can be measured by metal
gauge or steel tape. Please restore the each reference point to the right place if
you want to repair a damaged vehicle, because these reference points are the
benchmark for inspecting other points correct or not.
During measurement, although there are many reference points on the data
manual, but each reference point should follow some principles below:
AA. Find the reference points in the un-damaged area of the collision vehicle:
a. Find the reference point in the middle /rear part on the forward collision
vehicle. If the rear parts are affected during the forward collision, then find
the point in the middle.
b. The rear collision vehicle refers to forward collision one.
c. If the vehicle is damaged in the middle part, then find the point opposite
side of this damaged part.
d. If the vehicle is damaged badly, then at least three correct points should be
used as the benchmark to measure and restore other’s dimensions. It is
better to find these three points in the middle part (middle part of two Plane
0). Because this middle area is the strongest and most rigidity parts in
Complete Vehicle Body and Frame Vehicle Body. In the small collision, the
distortion is very small, so it can be regardless.
BB. The selected points are not damaged.
a. The reference points, like the protruding & concave points, screw
connectors, holes, should be complete and un-damaged. Because the
dimensions are measured according to their core. If they are damaged, the
dimensions will be changed thereafter.
b. If the point must be used, please repair it to normal before use.
D. The selection of the centre of the equipment and the centre of the vehicle
Please adjust the central line (plane) AA’ of the vehicle to superpose or parallel to
the central line (plane) of the equipment. That’ll be correct.
(2). Operations of vehicle anchoring on the equipment
A. Centre positioning
Fig 5-6
Fig 5-7
Fig 5-8
Fig 5-9
Make eye-measuring adjustment at first. The eye-measuring can check whether the
central line of the vehicle and the central line of the equipment are generally parallel
or not. If they are not parallel obviously, then the front or rear part of the vehicle
should be adjusted to be parallel with the central line of the vehicle and the equipment.
Move the tower to the adjusted place, fix it with bolt. Fix one end of the winch onto
the tower or the pocket holes of the equipment, the other end onto the higher parts of
the vehicle with high-strength. Drag the winch tightly to move one end of the vehicle
until they are general parallel. Adjust the precise measuring tools after eye-measuring.
Select two symmetrical reference points in the middle part (if you select the points in
the front or rear, the reference points selections regulations should be applied). Put
the traverse ruler on the track of the equipment under the reference points to be
measured (Fig 5-6). Put the proper measuring rod onto the traverse ruler, move it
under the reference points. Let the probe point at the reference points (Figure 5-7).
Through the reading hole of the slip socket, the width dimension of the two reference
points can be read (Figure 5-8). Calculate the difference between these two readings
“L1”. In this vehicle L1=475-385=90 mm. Select another two symmetrical reference
points. Put another traverse ruler on the track of the equipment under the measuring
reference points. Put the proper height measuring probe onto the traverse ruler, then
move it under the left/right reference points, let the probe point at the reference
points (Figure 5-9). Through the reading hole, we can know the readings of the width
dimension of these two reference points. Then calculate the difference “L2” between
these two numbers. L2=580-560=20 mm. “L1” is larger than “L2” with 60mm. Make
traverse movements until “L1” and “L2” are same. That is: “L1”=“L2”=“L”. In this
situation, the central line (plane) of the vehicle parallels to the central line of the
equipment. If you want these two central lines are superposed, that is “L”=0, then
please adjust the two ends of the vehicle. But in practical measurements, if the two
lines are parallel then that’s enough.
B. Height positioning
Figure 5-10
Figure 5-11
The positioning of height benchmark is to adjust the benchmark of the vehicle parallel
to the plane of the equipment. First, put the main clamp onto the equipment with the
mouths under the fixing pointing of the vehicle. Loosen the mouth; put the fixing
points into the mouth without fixing (Figure 5-10). Select two symmetrical reference
points in the middle parts (front and rear parts are ok, but they should refer to the
related regulations). Put the traverse ruler on the track of the equipment under the
reference points. Put the probes with proper height on the traverse ruler, then move
under the reference points, let the probes point at the reference point. We can read
these two readings of the probes easily. If two readings are different, please adjust
them to be the same (Figure 5-11). This reading will have a difference “H1” with the
number in the data base of Auto Body Dimension Manual. There are three parts in the
height dimension of MAXIMA Simple UMS: probe, ruler (rod) and ruler sleeve (Figure
5-12). The dimension of ruler sleeve and probe has remarks on their sockets (Figure
5-13). The probe divides into 6 columns with 5 mm each. The dimension of each ruler
can be read directly. In this vehicle, H1=325+15+160- 413=87mm. Select another
two symmetrical reference points on the vehicle; adjust them to the same height by
same method. This reading will have a difference “H2” with the number in the data
base. This vehicle is: H2=250+15+160-236=115mm. The difference between “H1”
and “H2” is 28 mm. Adjust H and H2 to be the same level, that is H1=H2=H. This
shows: the benchmark plane of the vehicle height parallels to the benchmark of the
measuring tools (equipment). This time, fix the vehicle to make sure the benchmark.

7. Measurement
A. Width measurement
First put the traverse ruler on the track of the equipment under the parts that will be
measured. Then select the probe with proper height, put it on the traverse ruler. Put
two probes on the holes or bolts to be measured (Figure 7-1). Then we can know the
width dimension between these two reference points (Figure 7-2). Please check
whether each reference point has the same width or equals to the one in the data
base. The other method of measurement to the width of the underbody is: take the
traverse ruler down, fix one of the measuring probes to the integer, put the upper
traverse ruler under the vehicle, let two probes point at the reference points to be
measured (Figure 7-3). At this time, tighten two probes. Take the upper traverse ruler
(under of the vehicle) out, we can read the width dimension of these two reference
points. If there is no obstacle between the reference points, then it can be measured
by tape directly.
Figure 7-1
Figure 7-2
Figure 7-3
Figure 7-4
B. Length and diagonal measurement
Take the upper traverse ruler down, put one of the probes points at the integer, then
put the traverse ruler under the vehicle, let the two probes point at the reference
points to be measured (Figure 7-4). At this time, tighten two probes. Take the upper
traverse ruler (under the vehicle) out, we can read the width dimension of these two
reference points.
C. Height measurement
Put the traverse ruler on the track of the equipment under the place to be measured,
select the probe with proper height onto the traverse ruler. Put the head of the probe
onto the hole or bolts to be measured. Through the height ruler, we can read a height
value plus the dimension of ruler sleeve and probe (Figure 7-5). Add this value to “H”,
then compare the result with standard dimension, we can know whether the height of
the reference points has been distorted or not.
Figure 7-5
Figure 7-6
Figure 7-8
Figure 7-9
Figure 7-10
B. The length, width and diagonal measurement
Put lower traverse ruler on the track of the equipment under the engine compartment,
and then move it to the place to be measured. Install two erect rulers, fix them with
bolts. Put the measuring probes onto the socket of the erect ruler; adjust their heights
and the probes point at the reference points (Figure 7-10). We can know the readings
through the probe socket. Minus with “L”, we’ll know the difference of the widths on
two sides.
Figure 7-11
Figure 7-12
A. Side measurement
Put the lower traverse ruler on the track of the equipment under the vehicle body,
install the two erect rulers. Fix the erect ruler with bolts, and then move the lower
traverse ruler to the place to be measured, put the probes on the sockets, and adjust
two sides to the same height and the probes to point at the reference points. We can
get the readings through the probe socket. Minus with “L”, we’ll know the width
changes on two sides of the vehicle (Figure 7-12).
Get the upper traverse ruler down, fix one of the probe sockets to the integer, and
point the two measuring probes of the upper traverse ruler at the places of the two
reference points. Through the readings of the measuring probes, we can know the
length, width and diagonal of these two points. If there is no obstacle between the
reference points, then it can be measured by tape directly.
The measurements of other parts of the vehicle, like, front window, rear window,
corner window, driving cab, vehicle pillar, baggage box, etc. refer to the above
operations.

(2). Operation of the pulling tower
A. Movement and the anchoring
Loosen the tower bolts and pull out the tower pins, move the pulling tower around
the equipment slowly (Figure 8-1). (If the tower cannot be moved, please check the
reasons.) Move the tower to the pulling position, anchor it with the tower bolt solidly
and insert the tower pin (Figure 8-2).
Figure 8-1
Figure 8-2
B. Pulling operation
Connect the two quick couplers on the equipment and tower (Figure 8-3). Adjust
the tower collar onto a suitable height (Figure 8-4). Select the right pulling tools and
anchor it to the vehicle body, where needs pulling; then join to the pulling chain,
adjust the length and direction of the chain to get every section into a line. Assure
the other end of the chain is locked on the tower ram. Start the oil pump. When
the chain is getting tightening, please loosen the tower collar and
continue to pull (Figure 8-5).
NOTE: The two bolts should be fastened firmly during pulling operation.
Please do not make inclined or reverse pulling, or the outer track and
wheels of the tower may damage.
