Activity 11: Directed Reading Thinking Activity

Instructions: Make a reflective journal about the steps and goals in using DRTA as
reading methodology to your future pupils.

The DRTA or Direct Reading-Thinking Activity is a very helpful guide for the students in
reading. It enhances the schemata of the students and the creativity they will gain from
remembering former information that they have. They are able to create a wide range of
control for their imagination and they create predictions in their liking. With these goals,
the students are capable to improve their reading comprehension because they are able
to create thoughts through predictions. On the latter part, they are able to comprehend
the intention of the writer.
Commencing on the steps in DRTA, it provides a setting for focus and attention for
students because of the thrilling excitement they get when they predict a happening.
Simultaneously, they can compare their thoughts wit their classmates to see what they
also have to say for the paragraph they read. Which sums up the goodness of using
DRTA in reading.
