Letter of Recommendation for Alicia Sage

Dear Bijou Beltran,

It is an honor to write this recommendation letter for Alicia Sage, who is applying for the Teacher on
Special Assignment-Technology position in your district. Two years ago, I had had the pleasure of
working with Ms. Sage when she completed her Masters in Curriculum & Instruction at Cal Poly.

During the master’s program, I witnessed Ms. Sage model exemplary practices in technology
implementation throughout her coursework and the curricular units she designed for her students. She is
not only familiar with how to integrate California state standards in technology-assisted instruction, but
also the ISTE standards, which are cutting-edge technology standards designed to support students in
areas of empowered learning, digital citizenship, knowledge construction, computational thinking and
innovative design.

In addition, Ms. Sage has a strong foundational knowledge of culturally-relevant pedagogy and social
justice education. Particularly noteworthy has been her participation in 2nd Annual Social Justice
Education Conference at Santa Maria High School where she presented a curriculum unit she developed
for her English Language Learners on the use of podcasts to improve listening and speaking skills. This
project integrated student choice, social justice issues, and taught students important digital literacy skills,
including audio production, script writing and interviewing skills.

Finally, Alicia demonstrates professionalism in many ways. She actively engages in research and
professional development in order to improve her practice. This includes attending the CUE conference,
the leading conference in technology instruction and integration in schools. She is also a collaborative
colleague and provides mentorship and support to others seeking to learn how to use technology in their
own practice.

It is for the above reasons that offer my highest recommendation for Ms. Alicia Sage. She will be an asset
to your district, particularly at this time when mastery of technological knowledge and high quality
instructional are essential to achieving student success. Please contact me if you should require additional
information.

Sincerely,

Briana Ronan, Ed.D.
