Lesson Outline: Procedures

Time Rate an essay: The students will read and analyze a STAAR released writing composition
10 min from a past 4th grade student. During this time, the teacher will point out things that the writer
did good or bad that way the students can work on adding the positive components to their
own writings and avoid the negative.

Score: 2

Time Analyze prompt: The students will get into mall groups where they are going to analyze a
10 min prompt by only discussing what could they write about. Instead of making them write about
it, the students will discuss what they would write about and give their reasons and details.

Time POD: During this time, the students will work on STAAR released revise and edit questions.
15 min The students will work on one through three questions in this time, along with guidance of the
teacher.

Time Composition: The students will then have an hour to work on their
60 min composition. The teacher will give them the prompt and they will
have to plan their writing using the process that they have been using
the whole year. The students will be timed from step to step (between
10-15min).

Time Revise and edit centers: During this time, the students will be doing a center of
60 min homophones. In the center the students will be working with some dominos where they are
given a sentence with a blank to fill in. Then in the other side of the domino, it has a
homophone of the word that goes in the blank to help them determine the word. After they are
done with this activity, the students will move on to work on applying the skill into STAAR
based questions.

Evidence and Formative Assessment of Student Learning (informal and formal)

Informal Assessment
Strategy: (10-15min) Student feedback:
Based on the center the students did during revise As the students complete the quiz, they will receive an
and edit (homophones), they will have a small quiz immediate score. In this time the teacher will also
at the end of the day during intervention time. The have a discussion with each student to see where she
quiz consists of three questions that were pulled out can add extra intervention time based on score and
from education galaxy. skill.
