INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR TECHNOLOGY IN EDUCATION (ISTE)

Reflection

In the world that we live in, technology is a very vital factor and it increasingly growing
its importance in the field of education. The more it advances, the more benefits it provides not
only to students but also to the teachers. The ISTE or International Society for Technology in
education is an international organization thats works and dedicated to support teachers with
clear guidelines for skills, knowledge, and approaches they need to survive in digital age.

ISTE standards for teachers provides excellent framework in learning more about how to
integrate technology in teaching. The ISTE standards for teachers includes: technology
operations and concepts, planning and designing learning environment and experiences;
teaching, learning and curriculum, productivity and professional ractices, and social, legal and
human issues. Likewise, ISTE developed standards needed for students and these includes:
creativity and innovation, communication and collaboration, research and information fluency,
critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, digital citizenship and technology
operations and concepts. These standards will be use as a guide by teachers to plan technology
based activites in order to achieve success in education.

As a student, I can't deny the fact that with the integration of technology in education, it
really enhanced learning and made it convenient for learners. Teachers can now impart
customized education to cater different learning abilities and needs of the students. The ISTE
supports teachers and prepares students for this ever changing technological society. When
teachers are ICT literate or trained to use ICT, they can provide creative and individualized
options for students to express their understandings, and leave students better prepared to deal
with ongoing technological change in society and the workplace

Find a friend in social media who is also a college student. Discuss an ICT concept and
write your thoughts and her/his thoughts about it.

ICT stands for "Information and Communication Technology and is common term referring to
the technologies used for collecting, storing, editing and communicating information in various
formats. As what my friend in social media firmly believes, ICT is a collection technological
gear and resources which are made use of to communicate. She also emphasize that an ICT
literate individual can access, manage, evaluate, create, and communicate information
purposefully, knowledgeably, technically, and ethically.

For the record, ICT Literacy is the ability to use digital technology, communication tools, and/or
networks appropriately to solve information problems in order to function in an information
society. This includes the ability to use technology as a tool to research, organize, evaluate, and
communicate information and understanding of the ethical/legal issues surrounding the access
and use of information. With this, I believe that students that are ICT literate are generally more
efficient learners, thus are more productive.

LESSON 3

"HOW DOES THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY CHANGE THE TEACHING-

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT"

Reflection

Due to the advent of technology, it had caused drastic change in education, specifically in
teaching-learning environment. If we are going to look back to the time before the advancements
of modern technologies, the teaching- learning environment was different that it is today. The
teachers would always use dusty chalkboards, whiteboard, and/or cartolina as visual aids.
Student's was told to sat on their respective seats, open their books and listen to the teacher. But
today, the role of technology undeniably changed the teaching learning environment.
 According to Stosic(2015), educational technology has three domains: (1) Technology as
a tutor. (2) Technology as a teaching tool. (3) Technology as a learning tool. Schools have come
to realized the importance of technology and have started integrating it to the classroom. With
the arrival of different educational devices in the classroom as a teaching and learning tool, it has
become easier for teachers to impart knowledge and for the students to acquire it. Likewise, the
role of technology modernize the teaching-learning environment. Technology provides enormous
support for both teachers and students. The learning process become interactive and
collaborative. Technology also helped the efficiency of education. Instead of the teacher being
the only source of knowledge, with technology, students can access web sites, online tutorials,
and more to assist them.

Teacher now become the facilitator of knowledge. Learning as well as teaching has
improved and became easier. Having access to other information outside of the book gives
students many different ways to learn a concept. Teachers can come up with creative ways to
teach their students that keeps them engaged because today's learner wanted to be active and
more engaged throughout the learning process.

"HOW TECHNOLOGY INFLUENCED MY LIFE AS A LEARNER"

Reflection

Today, technology is now a very integral part of the day-to-day life for each and every
one of us. With technological advancements, learning become more easier and that had greatly
influenced my life as an individual and as a learner.

When I was in elementary, we used to carry heavy books given by our teachers. We don't
use phones for researching. We don't use laptops in making our outputs. We rely on our
textbooks, on our papers and on our pen. Our teacher would always tell us to, "turn your books to
page..." and so on. Technically, we can live without technology. But we can't deny the fact that
there's a lot of inconvenience.It was in highschool when I started using phones and laptop in
school. We don't have books but our teachers would always let us have a copy of our fact sheets.
We use laptop and projectors in making our presentation. And that is much different from what it
was before. We no longer have to carry those heavy books because we have now the access to
different informations outside. Technology has made the life of students easier. Nowadays,
students use different software and tools to make presentations and projects, instead of using pen
and paper.

Thanks to technology, it made our work become easier. It allows us students to get work
done easier. It also expands the boundaries of the classroom, encouraging self-paced learning.
Even after school, I can now access learning through internet. With the help of technology and
assistance of our teachers, any student like me can access web sites, online tutorials, and more.
This helps us students learn better. With these, I conclude that technological advancements really
made learning more fun,convenient, and meaningful. It had really influenced my life as a
student.

"CURRENT ISSUES IN TECHNOLOGY USE"

 With the advancement of modern technologies, the everyday life of people had
drastically changed. Life, in the present times, has become easier and convenient. However, at
the same time, life has also become slightly messed up because of some issues in tecnological
use.

Access and Civil liberties are two sets of issues in ICT policy which are crucial to the
modern society. The freedom of expression and cersorship, privacy and security, surveillance
and data retention,E-pollutants from E-waste are examples of issues in internet policy that has
relationship to civil liberties or human rights. Issues in privacy and security is I think the most
crucial at present times. Privacy is an important right because it is a necessary condition for other
rights such as freedom and personal autonomy. Respecting a person's privacy is to acknowledge
such a person's right to freedom and to recognize that individual as an autonomous human being.
But due to the development of technology, there are a lot of privacy policies or the terms and
conditions use by commercial sites that when you click " I agree", it is as if you have turned over
private information to any authority that may access it or that you agree to abide by their terms of
service.

As a student, we need to be a responsible user of technology. Therefore, it is important

for us to ensure that all information from us will be used for certain purposes for which it was
gathered and will not be disclosed to others without our consent.

Safety Issues on the Use of ICT including e-Safety Rules

Reflection

Technology has played a very important role in how we live in the world today and how
we communicate with everything around us. The role of ICT in the education also plays a vital
role in empowering students with knowledge they need in preparation for their future. But
despite of the numerous benefits for teaching and learning, there are also negative effects on the
learners. There are lot risk in using technology that we need to recognize and there is also a need
for us to be aware on how to safeguard our learners.

Privacy issues, addiction to gambling and gaming, exposure to inappropriate content like
pornography, cyberbullying etc.. are some risk in that we have to be aware in the use of digital
technologies. Understanding how we can address these issues is a need for a future teachers like
us to ensure the safety of the students. With e-safety knowledge, our learners can better
understand the dangers in improper use of ICT as well as understand unethical behaviors that
they should not practice.

As future teachers, there is a need for us to be aware on how we can safeguard our
learners with the risk of using technology. Therefore, we need to understand esafety rules so we
can teach it with our students. Teachers should be mindful of their students, they should know
how to use technology appropriately.
