PER FAX: 012 462 4863 Dear Sir, RE: ELECTRICITY SUPPLY CUT DUE TO NON-PAYMENT BY THE STATE 1. We refer to the above matter and confirm that we act on behalf of the South African National Defence Union (SANDU) and several of its members stationed at the Dunnottar Military Base, who are members of the SANDF. 2. — Ourinstructions are that the electricity supply to the entire base including offices, buildings and military housing was discontinued on 21 April 2021 by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, apparently due to non-payment by the Department of Defence and/or the Department of Public works of the said municipal electricity bill of the base. 3, It is placed on record that the instructions from the members represented by SANDU is that as a result of the power cut inter alia: a. they are to a large extent prevented from performing their required daily tasks; b. the base's electronic security systems are compromised; PO Box 14752 Ges! This situation is completely untenable to our client and its members and to the detriment Of the public at large. The situation is even more disconcerting considering the fact that the military families pay for their service via Department of Defence payroll deduction monthly. It is furthermore our instruction to demand from the addressees that the relevant organs of state effect the necessary arrangements to restore electricity to the entire Dunnottar Military Base without further a due. Should the necessary arrangements and reconnection Rot occur before or on 23 April 2021 by close of business, we hold instruction to approach the high court for the necessary relief on an urgent basis.
