HISTORY
Charity is the greatest act that humanity can do for the sake of the people. Caritate means
love in Latin. It requires the sacrifice of what we have for others. When I was a young boy, I
had a longing aspiration to establish an organization. As we all know, poverty is the greatest
concern of our times as it has been. One time, I watched a video on Youtube about the lives
of poor people, listening to them explain about themselves; I could not help but shed tears
over their unhappiness and suffering. Then I suddenly saw their feet full of crack and blood
and flies flying around them. More tears were flowing to the cheeks, and I could not watch
it longer because of the pain I felt for them. Therefore, I think it is a good opportunity to
help them by providing them shoes to walk towards the future and help them feel loved like
anyone else with no exception or condition. In this way, they can be good citizens and
contributors to their community and society.

MISSION
Our Shoes of Love organization helps empower the poor people’s ability to walk towards
the future by the potentiality of volunteers in exercising their talents and the generosity of
donors.

VISION
Our vision should be clear and straightforward. We desire to help poor people, including
children who come to school without shoes due to extreme poverty they are unfortunately
suffering, and improve the environment.

BACKGROUND
People worldwide experience economic inequality, especially the poor, when they do not
have the slightest ability to work or earn money to support their starving families. It has
been a common problem in our society for centuries. Due to the international spread of the

3
Covid-19 pandemic and other natural disasters that have profoundly affected families, the
number of people living in homelessness and destitution is rapidly increasing. Countless
authorities have tried their best to solve that by implementing policies that may benefit
them from poverty. Furthermore, they, to be honest, truly gradually improve people’s lives.
However, if we might suggest you dig deeper into that problem, health is no less vital than
poverty to the poor. In some parts of Africa and Asia, we have recently found that
inhabitants are concerned more about their health because they live in deplorable
conditions. That is why all kinds of diseases exist over their bodies, especially their feet,
which are the main transmission. Calluses and corns, dry crack heels, plantar warts, etc.
Why is that? The reason is already apparent; they cannot afford the cheapest yet
high-quality shoes because of their impoverishment. It should sadden us. Feet is a part of
the body that they need to walk daily. Bearing such infirmity in them, can they be able to
walk towards the future with confidence?
At the same time, we also witness the significant quantities of abandoned, left unused or
unrecyclable materials, leading to an adverse change to the environment. More
controversially, old car tires are still in good condition, yet not recycled to better use. People
try to burn them out, but, unfortunately, very few of them know its negative effect that
directly causes harmful pollutants in the air and leads to acute to chronic health hazards.
Therefore, the Shoes of Love’s urgent response to those problems are to accomplish two
main tasks to help both the environment and the poor.

PROPOSED GOAL
● To create jobs and good working experience for all members
● To start fundraising
● To open a mini-factory
● To train those who want to volunteer yet have no talents
● To purchase necessary materials for manufacturing and production
● To be federally and nationally recognized
● To expand and open some offices in Africa and Vietnam
● To invest in more tires and mini-factories
● To have the poor’s feet medically treated
● To make sure all poor people, whom we target, have shoes on
● To provide them jobs to earn money and manage to put food on the table

4
TARGET POPULATION
We sense the energetic presence of many non-profit organizations in Houston that helpfully
provide essential aid to their people every day. That is why the population we have the
intention to aim at is the poor people in Africa and even some ethnic minorities living in
high mountains in Vietnam. However, it is logical that, since Shoes of Love is a
newly-established non-profit organization, we cannot reach out to them internationally.
Therefore, it is a wise decision for us that we will be working with Caritas Internationalis,
the largest Catholic charity organization in the world, to achieve this goal in the spirit of the
Divine charity.

According to the reports shown in the chart provided by the Caritas, food, clothes, and
health have been relatively high over the recent years thus got well-covered.
Notwithstanding the positive progress, shoes are a severe problem that Caritas faces due to
a lack of donations. The percentage of shoes has been up and down inconsistently, especially
in the Covid-19 pandemic. As said in the Background, many poor inhabitants in those
substandard places get diseases on their feet because of having no shoes on. We know that

5
this is a genuine concern, and we cannot keep seeing them like that forever. That is why we
want to start a non-profit organization to produce and provide shoes to them to walk
towards the future, which is our sole mission.

IMPLEMENTATION PLAN
Collection, Techniques, and Production
● Our main goal is to collect lots of old, crusty, and abandoned car tires from various
small car shops and auto repairs all around Houston and maybe a little bit outside
the city. Also, in dumpsters.
● We also ask for donations of tires and wheels from those who no longer use them.
For the more considerable amount of tires, some volunteers will reach some large car
service businesses such as Firestone because they have many old tires in a bin in the
back of the service bays.
● Donations of tire drop boxes will be installed around the city of Houston.
● Once we get the amount of money from people’s donations, we will invest in
modern technology, machinery, traveling, office rent, and so on.
● Performing the goal as mentioned above will serve the second goal: conserve the
sustainable use of resources such as water, land, and air. We want to preserve a clean
environment to make a better future for our later generations.
● After collecting all tires, they will be loaded into a rented truck and transported to
our mini-factory. Then we use modern technology to cut each tire’s pieces and
transform them into environmentally-friendly shoes for those who need them most.
Job, Volunteer, and Experience
● Jobs are provided to reduce unemployment.
● We want to create the experience for any student who seeks volunteering work
during their seasonal breaks and use their talents or skills to transform tires into
shoes. Then we can hand them out to those in need and even provide them to some
charitable organizations.
● Prisoners are also to be reached out to help us accomplish the mission. It is the
opportunity for them to work and to express their charity and generosity.

6
● Our non-profit organization will start in several months after we officially confirm
that our services are settled.
