1. Why is it important to study the life of our heroes?

- From my point of view, it is important to study the life of our heroes, for

instance, Dr. Jose Rizal, we should turn out to be more mindful of the beliefs

that our nation is established upon. We should turn out to be more mindful of

the sacrifices that our forefathers made all together that we could have a free

country.

2. Discuss your ideas/opinions of Rizal’s works and the reason for being

considered a hero?

- The work of Rizal touched our souls by producing poems and novels.

Without resorting to violence, he made us, Filipinos, to understand the

persecution they were experiencing under the Spaniards. In his poems he

also clarified that it was so important to cherish one's country. Through his

works, he was able to revolutionize the way that the Filipino thought. He was

able to stir the people’s inner spirit. The reason behind why Jose Rizal is

considered a national hero of the Philippines is because he looked far beyond

overthrowing the Spaniards. He was interested in the long term situation of

the country.

3. What urged the protagonists of the Rizal Bill to file such motion?

- In my view, it’s because of the campaign that oppose the Rizal Bill by

Catholics. The Catholics looked at the bill as an attempt to discredit their

religion and the protagonists really hopes to give people knowledge about

oppression suffered by the Filipinos during the Spanish Era that’s why he filed

that motion.
4. Are the issues on the R.A 1425 still pertinent on the present

conditions of the Philippines?

- Yes, the issues still present nowadays. Because it's as of now engraved in

our brains. I know some people are still against so the issue is even more

active, it will in any case stay to the present.

5. In the context of the 1950’s, why was the Catholic Church strongly

opposed to the Senate Bill 438?

- It is because the Catholics see that the law is an attempt to discredit their

religion. They find the works of Rizal such as Noli and El Fili as containing

views inimical to the tenets of their faith; they particularly challenged the

compulsory nature of the bill as violative of religious freedom so they insist

that it should not be a compulsory reading for the novels contain attacks on

the Catholic Church and its clergy. The Catholics don’t want the students

especially those coming from Catholics schools, be demoralized.
