Essay on the virtues exemplified in Rizal’s family

Herein this statement will show the virtues manifested by the members of the Rizal
family. The virtues that molds Jose Rizal to become a great man for the Filipinos, our national
hero. Exhibiting talent at the very young age, Jose Rizal had learned the alphabet and how to
write and read. His family is amazed by his special drawings, sketches, and moldings of clay. He
also showed special talent in painting and sculpture. His father, Don Francisco Mercado is
hardworking, independent-minded, has strong determination, and always do things in a
respectful manner. His mother, Dona Teodora Alonzo Quintos Realonda is an educated and
highly cultured woman. She was usually described as a diligent business-minded woman, very
graceful but courageous, well-mannered, religious, and well-read. The eldest from the Rizal
siblings is Saturnina Rizal. With her mother, Saturnina provided a good basic education for a
young Jose Rizal, who was learned the alphabet at the age of three.

The only brother, Paciano Rizal is respected by Jose Rizal and valued all his advice. Jose
Rizal’s relationship to his brother Paciano is deep, fonded and considered that more than of an
older brother. Narcisa Rizal is the third child in the family, she helped Jose Rizal in financing his
studies in Europe even it makes her pawn her jewelries and sell her clothes. Narcisa became a
very supportive sister for Jose Rizal, just like Saturnina. Lucia Rizal and Maria Rizal are also a
supportive sister for Jose Rizal. Concepcion Rizal who has died at the age of three, was the most
loved sister by Jose Rizal, because he first felt that sisterly love at the very young age.

Josefa Rizal was a courageous woman, she joined the Katipunan and help them by
safeguarding secret papers and documents. Trinidad Rizal is the one that keep the last poem of
his brother Jose Rizal. Trinidad also joined the Katipunan, to express his courage and
determination to free the country from Spaniards. Soledad Rizal is the youngest child of the
Rizal family, becomes a teacher that possess virtue and good qualities that will help the person
who needs her learning. This memories of Jose Rizal will show the virtue and good deeds of his
family. The young Jose Rizal was weak, sickly, and undersized, he was given the fondest care by
his parents. When the night comes, his mother will gather all family member to start praying
Angelus. From that daily habit of the family, Jose Rizal loved to go to the chapel, pray,
participate in novenas, and join religious processions.

The good qualities, strength, love, and being upright that has been stated here, is the
virtue that has been exemplified by the Rizal family. There is more facts that must be included,
but it will all falls down to a specific idea, and that is how Rizal family embodies the patriotism
and good deeds to serve the others. This is why Jose Rizal, leads us to become a free man and
woman in our motherland by sacrificing himself. His good qualities obtained from his childhood,
is the root to what he became, our national hero.
