Potomac State College or WVU Tech, or otherwise an
admitted graduate or professional student, your view in
Portal will look different.

Financial Aid: Information in STAR where you can view financial aid awards, cost of attendance,
financial holds and more.

STAR (Students & Technology Achieving Results): Get information about financial aid, course
schedules/catalogs, and register for classes.

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT CHECKLIST


Academic Deposit (Morgantown students): This is the first payment you will make as a first-time
freshman or transfer student. It allows you to proceed to housing selection and New Student
Orientation registration. Click “Pay Your Academic Deposit” to go to STAR and make a payment.

Housing: 48 hours after their academic deposit is processed, Morgantown students can complete
the application at housing.wvu.edu. PSC students should go to bit.ly/2JLZqFE and Tech students
should go to housing.wvutech.edu.

Financial Aid & Scholarships: Morgantown students can visit scholarships.wvu.edu for a full list
of WVU scholarship opportunities, and go to the FAFSA website to apply. You can view your awards
in the Financial Aid section of STAR. PSC students should visit go.wvu.edu/pscscholarships and
Tech students should visit bit.ly/2wBf7GZ.

New Student Orientation: At NSO, you will get your Mountaineer ID card, meet your residence hall
leadership team (or learn about commuting), speak with academic representatives in your
department, schedule your courses and learn about resources at WVU. Morgantown students can
register at orientation.wvu.edu and PSC students can register at go.wvu.edu/pscnso. Tech
students can register for New Student Registration and Family Information Day at bit.ly/2UHceD3.

ALEKS Math Assessment (Morgantown and PSC students): Depending on your ACT/SAT math
scores, you may need to take the ALEKS exam to be placed in the correct math class. Prepare by
clicking “Practice ALEKS from home” to take a practice test.

Dining: If you will be living in a Residence Hall on any WVU campus, you must purchase a dining
plan. You can purchase your plan at mymountaineercard.wvu.edu, which is also where you add
Mountie Bounty. Meal swipes, Dining Dollars and Mountie Bounty are all loaded on your Mountaineer
ID card. Use them in that order.

Registering for Courses: If you’re a Morgantown or PSC student, the first time you register for
courses will be at New Student Orientation. If you’re a Tech student, you will register at New Student
Registration. Advisors will guide you through the process.

Undergraduate Information Links: Shortcuts to various WVU websites such as Admissions, Career
Services and Information Technology Services.

WVU Academic Calendar: Features events, such as Thanksgiving Break and final exam week. Click
“View All Events” to see the entire calendar.

Note: If you’re an undergraduate student admitted to Potomac State College or WVU Tech, you will
see a different calendar feed and shortcut links in your view of Portal.
