(Time: 12:30 – 12: 31)
Presenter: Hello….. You are welcome to another special edition on today’s talk
show on Hot 99.5 FM, I’m still your presenter Miss Chisom Akoru.
We’ve got lot to talk about today, and this is 12:35 by our time. Without wasting
much of our time let’s dive into today’s topic: which says “POOR ACADEMIC
PERFORMANCE ON TERTIARY STUDENTS”.

Introduction

We want to know the challenges or issues that cause poor academic performance
among high institution students.

Let’s go on a short break, we will be right back, stay tuned. (Duration: 12:45 –
12:55)

We want to know the causes or challenges most students pass through in school
that make them come out or rather graduate with a poor result at the end of
semester . (01:00)

Point 1: Peer Group 1 influence:

Most students come from a very responsible family before they gained admission
to school and were influenced by peer groups which made some to join cultism,
prostitution, internet fraud, etc. all because they want to belong and be seen as one
of the happening boys and girls. At the end of the semester, they will end up failing
their courses. (01:05)
Point 2: Social Media platforms

Lot of students are slay queens, having sugar daddies and mummies, having many
followers, thousands of likes and comments without brains in their head.
(01:10)

Point 3: Not paying rapt attention

Another cause of poor academic performance amongst tertiary students is inability

to pay attention to lectures and their studies. When lectures are ongoing, students
are busy discussing, taking selfies, browsing, etc… and at the end of lectures they
won’t have anything tangible to go home with. (01:15)

Point 4: Missing lectures and sorting lecturers for Grade

Most of them will be in their lodges doing nothing reasonable, missing lectures for
no reason and at the end they expect to pass their education through sorting and
coming out with a certificate they can’t even defend. (01:17)

We will be right back, don’t touch the dial.

When we come back, we are going to advice our students out there. (Duration:
01:20 – 01:22)

Conclusion

Presenter: My advice to our students studying out there, it takes determination and
self discipline to achieve anything in life. I urge us to take our studies serious and
not while away our time on irrelevant things, because education is the key and
when you fail to prepare – you are preparing to fail. (01:25)

Presenter: Well, our time is up, that’s all we have for today’s edition. Thanks for
listening, hope you had a great time joining us. Still join us next week, same time
same station on Hot 99.5, with your lovely presenter, my name still remains
Chisom Akoru. Don’t touch that dial. (01:29)
