Bangladesh is a small densely packed country. Due to this vast population,
people of Bangladesh are facing lack of basic rights. Thus, many social
problems arise. They include : Population and poverty, Unemployment, Crimes,
Violence against women and children, Politics, unemployment, etc. All of these
are explained below.

Population and Poverty

Bangladesh has the 8th largest population in the world with 163 million
inhabitants living in an area of 147,570 square kilometers (56,980 sq mi),
making it one of the most densely populated countries in the world.
Approximately 21.8% of the population live below the national poverty line and
has recently been graduated from lower-income country to higher-income
country. In this transition the people of Bangladesh went through a lot of
struggle. Poverty is often said to be one of the biggest problems which faces our
society today. This sentiment is echoed by the millennium development goals as
set out by United Nations (UN) in which the first goal is the eradication of
extreme poverty and hunger. Poverty and population growth are said to be
interrelated and the impacts of a growing population on the carrying capacity of
the environment is continually highlighted. As a result, regions experiencing
high levels of both poverty and population growth are often the least developed
countries (LDC) of the world. In the presence of poverty and population growth
the ability to achieve sustainable development has proved to be difficult in
many regions of the world. The question of poverty eradication and population
growth stability or decline, is one not only of resource allocation, but also
human rights. The inter-relations and complexities that exist between these
concepts have made the solutions to these problems difficult in many cases. In
the movie Aynabaji we can see poverty, populated areas and sustainable
development all together.

Aynabaji has put Bangladesh in the national screen with all the faces of our
country. It has been shot in an area near Buringanga river which is one of the
polluted river in the world. The main character in the movie is Ayna, he lives in
a densely populated area where houses has been made beside one another with
no spaces between, narrow roads and lack of sanitation.  Ayna, a struggling
actor who gets to live his profession in real life after failing in his career. We
can see from the movie what poverty can do to people. Ayna needed money to
cure his dying mom and the only fastest way to earn money for a lower-class
people is to get involve in illegal activities. But life of crime is so harsh even
after choosing it he failed to save his mother. Later, because of lack of money
he started to pursue this illegal activity as his career. He used to go to jail as a
doppelganger of the person instead of the person who has done the crime.
Giving us a glimpse of how messed up the system of this country. Almost most
of the people living below the poverty line is involved in criminal activities in
some kind of way. In Aynabaji we can see both poverty and population together
that what poverty does to people and how population can effect people in day to
day lives.

Crime

“Aynabaji” is probably the first political crime thriller movie from Bangladesh.
No such history had been told in this country before. This movie is essentially
the story of Sharafat Karim Ayna (played by Chanchal Chowdhury), a human
chamelon serving as body doubles for convicted criminals, operating in the dark
3
underbelly of Dhaka’s criminal and Judiciary system. His mystery is being
chased by an inquistive, stubborn crime reporter Saber (Partho Barua), while
Hridy (Masuma Rahman Nabila), a girl next door develops a connection with
Ayna. But like every cocky confident professional, Ayna gets in too deep and
finds himself not having the control over proceeding he is so used to.

In the movie, we can see that Ayna earns money by playing different crime
roles. Ayna (Chanchal Chowdhury) plays six characters and he does justice to
all of them. After his mother’s death Ayna started his human chameleon
serving as body double role for convicted criminals. His mother died because of
the lack of money that’s why he started doing it to earn money. Everytime when
any criminal who got suspension by the judiciary court came to Ayna, he first
studied the case and then asked an amount of money to play his role. After done
all commitments, Ayna goes to jail for the money in stead of that criminal. After
three or six month jail, Ayna got bailed and returned to his home.

This movie has many twist plots where the writer wants to show the crime scene
of our society. Those who have money and power, they can do anything to
anybody in this concept. By using the power of money, they murdered and also
got bailed instant after a few months. In the first we can see a criminal came to
Ayna and offers him money for acting his role and asked him to go to the jail.
Ayna agreed for the money and went to jail for him. In this way, he did it for six
times but unfortunately he got trapped by a famous corrupted politician in the
last. He trapped Ayna, offered money and asked to go to jail for his murder
case. Ayna agreed in the same way as before , but this time he did not get bail.
Moreover, he got death penalty for that murder case. After a while, Ayna
released himself from that trap and fled away from the jail. In the end, Ac
Sajjad caught the real Murderer and offered him to go jail. Mainly these are the
main crime histories of the movie, “Aynabaji”.

In our society, there are many corrupted people who have so much money, who
might be politically powerful. As a result those people use their money and
power to the general poor people who need money for survive. However, these
poor people in our society get distracted by this people who offer them an
amount of money. They also agree to do such crime things for the money.
Hence the main culprits are these kind of politically powerful people who used
their money and power among the general people in our society!

In my opinion, I can say that people of different class should be more empathy
with those kind of people who need financially help and mentally help also. The
people who are struggling to live his profession in real life in his career, we
should come forward to help them. They might be face different circumstances
in their life, but if we become more empathy to them then it will be a great help
for them. The movie, “Aynabaji” highlights the dark sight of metro city Dhaka,
depicting the constant combat between the ruling class and the mass people
living in the society. In our daily life also there are so many people who are
playing the role of Ayna and playing the role of powerful rich corrupted
poltician. We should be aware from these kind of people to lead a normal and
peaceful life. If we can see any kind of people kike Ayna who are struggling to
survive in his life we all should try to help them as soon as possible rather than
it is too late. Also we should have to make a awareness among those shitty
headed corrupted politicians so that they can not use the people like Ayna in
near future.

Politics

5
In the definition shared by most political specialists, political corruption is any
exchange among private and public area entertainers through which aggregate
merchandise are misguidedly changed over into private-in regards to
settlements (Heidenheimer et. al. 1993:6). In a stricter definition, political
corruption includes political decisionmakers. Political or great debasement
happens at the significant levels of the political framework. It is the point at
which the lawmakers and state specialists, who are qualified for make and
implement the laws for the sake of individuals, are themselves corrupt. Political
corruption is when political chiefs utilize the political influence they are
equipped with, to support their influence, status and wealth. In this manner,
political corruption can be recognized from regulatory or unimportant
debasement, which is corruption in the policy implementation, at the execution
end of legislative issues. Political corruption prompts the misallocation of
assets, yet it additionally influences the way wherein choices are made. Political
corruption is the control of the political organizations and the standards of
strategy, and hence it impacts the foundations of government and the political
framework, and it oftentimes prompts institutional rot. Political corruption is
consequently something in excess of a deviation from formal and composed
legitimate standards, from proficient codes of morals and court decisions.
Political corruption is when laws and guidelines are pretty much efficiently
mishandled by the rulers, evaded, disregarded, or even custom-made to
accommodate their inclinations. Political corruption is a deviation from the
judicious legitimate qualities and standards of the cutting-edge state, and the
essential issue is the powerless responsibility between the lead representatives
and the administered. Specifically in tyrant nations, the legitimate bases, against
which degenerate practices are normally assessed and judged, are feeble and
besides subject to out and out infringement by the rulers. Political corruption
(typically upheld by far and wide administrative or negligible defilement) ought
to moreover be considered as one of the essential methods of activity of tyrant
6
systems. It is one of the components through which the dictator influence
holders advance themselves. Here, corruption is infrequently a sickness that the
mindful government officials are anxious to keep away from, it is an intentional,
needed and applied practice; it is one of the rulers' methods of advancement and
financial control. Political corruption is thusly a "typical" condition in dictator
nations, despite the fact that showing an extraordinary assortment as per the
different types of tyranny. In any case, as exhibited by countless debasement
embarrassments in liberal popular governments throughout the long term,
political corruption isn't confined to tyrant frameworks. All things considered,
by keeping up the connection among tyranny and political defilement, and a
meaning of political debasement as far as state rights controlled to serve the
interests of the rulers, one will see that the substance of the issue of political
defilement contrasts much among tyrant and liberal majority rule systems. In
fair nations, the issue of political defilement is a greater amount of an accidental
and incidental nature, and can be managed inside the current political
framework; by transforming, reinforcing and vitalizing the current political
foundations of governing rules. Numerous conceivable hypotheses on
defilement have been gotten from good and social attributes of individual
societies. It has for example been contended that the remarkable quality of
debasement is the continue into present-day political conduct of social qualities
acquired structure a patrimonial past, similar to exchanges, blessing giving and
unequivocal fortitude with more distant families, tribes and other public
gatherings (de Sardan 1999:25). This may clarify the differentiation among
Africa and Europe, and the contrasts between the catholic Western European
nations with a "Latin" culture and the Nordic, protestant nations. In addition, in
certain nations, private-with respect to conduct, and specifically state specialists
who represent the advantage of his loved ones, isn't prohibited by law and is
moreover viewed as an ethical obligation. From the socially relativist
perspective it has even been contended that defilement isn't a wrongdoing at
7
whatever point it is a piece of the neighborhood culture. The one and same
demonstration may hence be judicially censured and socially acknowledged.
Besides, the illicitness of debasement differs across nations as per the public
enactment and public custom. Notwithstanding, from the above conversation on
definitions and speculations of debasement when all is said in done and political
defilement specifically, the monetary and political reasons for debasement stand
apart as the most complete. An overall marvel like defilement calls for general
clarifications. Furthermore, underlying and institutional (financial and political)
clarifications are fundamental to stay away from the distinction of social
clarifications, and are additionally desirable over the occasionally self-
defending reasons installed in these. The degree of defilement and the structure
it takes is likewise changing rather methodically with the political setting.
Debasement levels and structures change with the system type inside which it
happens. One broadly held general supposition that will be that the degree of
debasement relates adversely with democratization, i.e., that the degree of
defilement is diminishing with expanding levels of majority rules system. There
has been defined a "law" or general routineness that says that the level of
defilement fluctuates contrarily to the extent that influence is consensual
(Friedrich 1993:16). That is, the more the force is authentic, the less defilement.
In Bangladesh, political issues are considered as perhaps the most serious social
issues as pretty much the sky is the limit in the event that you have the force of
governmental issues. In the film 'Aynabaji,' as plainly Sharafat Karim Ayna was
employed by Kuddus Siddiqui to imitate him and go to prison rather than him.
Corruption might cause a lot of harm to society, like for instance when it leads
to illegal logging of tropical rain forests and the non-observation of building
codes designed to ensure public safety. Corruption may likewise prompt
uncertain residents, speculative legislators, and heads wavering between
gigantic freedoms, grave dangers and much twofold pressing factor. Leaving
these to the side, a more critical gander at the financial and political outcomes
8
of corruption is appropriate. As we find in the film, for this political corruption,
Sharafat Karim Ayna stalled out in the prison due to the pioneer named Nizam
Sayed Chowdhury. Since Nizam killed one teacher and requested that Ayna go
to prison rather than him. Eventually, it involved time for Ayna to get hung
rather than Nizam however by one way or another Ayna figured out how to get
away from the jail and the police at last figured out how to get Nizam Sayed
Chowdhury. That is how, the movie ends thus, reality wins over corruption.

Unemployment

Unemployment is one of the major social problems in almost every country in

the world. It has been accordant problem that is facing all poor as well as
industrially advanced countries. Unemployment refers to the condition of not
having any job or being out proportion of people who are able to work or
eligible to work and diligently looking for jobs but unable to find any. There are
some common causes of unemployment in Bangladesh and other developing
countries are the change in technologies, contribution of women in labour force,
demographic structure, economic situations, production of electricity which is
mainly issue in Bangladesh, immigration from rural areas to towns and cities.
Also, increasing population is another main reason of unemployment in
Bangladesh. Because the more the population is, the more the need of jobs or
works is. Again, large number of this increasing population is remaining
illiterate for which they do not get proper job. In rural areas, people can find
work for their livelihood, but they think that they will get better job and better
livelihood in urban area or cities and towns and so they move there; eventually
suffer because of unemployment as getting job is way harder in cities than they
imagine. The department of the youth development states that about one third of
the population in Bangladesh is youth who are aged 18-35. As they say youth is
the key to socio-economic development of a country. because youths are more
9
potential and energetic than any other age of people. They have the potential to
work or even critical thinking which may help them prosper in future and also
be helpful for the society and the country. But unfortunately they cannot
implement their potentiality anywhere and be useful to the society. Thus they
struggle because of unemployment even after completing their graduation. They
lose their energy and potential in search of perfect jobs. On the other hand, the
job sectors search for extraordinary, employee; not to mention their working
experiences. In addition, the employers look for candidates who have
connections with higher society. Nepotism or favouritism or partiality is also
another reason because of which people cannot get jobs. Most of the time
employers give the jobs to those who are their favourites no matter how bad
their CV looks like. Because of these reasons many youths fail to show their
ability and skills and remain unemployed even being qualified. Corruption is
also one of the reasons of unemployment as in some places employers take
bribes from the candidates and those who search for jobs with honesty and do
not bribe, do not get the jobs. Consequently, the potential and energy fade away
in search of proper job. This social problem results many more social problems
including severe financial hardship for middle class, lower middle class and
lower class families, poverty, debt, even homelessness and housing stress,
family tensions, mental and physical breakdown, shame and stigma, self-esteem
and deterioration of confidence. Unemployment also cause social isolation due
to shame and social crimes. Because people get forced to adapt wrong ways of
earning as they fail to earn properly in right and honest ways. This is how social
crimes increase. However, social crimes involve theft, robbery, dishonest
business, illegal drug dealing, money laundering, extortion, fraud, black
marketing etc. Con-artists are included in fraud business; they act like someone
else in exchange of money. In Aynabaji movie, they show this side of the
society where a young man named Ayna is unemployed and has a natural gift to
adapt any character and act naturally like that other person. He uses this talent
10
to earn money by going to jail for them. By this the main criminal stays out of
jail and someone else serves the punishment. If Ayna was not unemployed and
was able to work in a proper way and use his natural gift in other way and earn
his livelihood with honesty, he would never become a con-artist and cover for
the criminal. Being con-artist is also a felony to crime which people like Ayna
would not commit if they had other proper way to earn. For example, Ayna
could earn from teaching children acting in a school, or he could be assigned in
any acting profession. But the children of his acting school were not from so
well-off families. And people do not look for talented actors in such a populous
area where Ayna belonged. Again, earning being con-artist was easier way for
Ayna rather than looking for some proper acting jobs. Unemployment is such a
social issue that gives birth to so many crimes that are able to ruin a social
image. Employers should give people more chances to prove themselves
according to their skills than connections or partiality before their potential
turns into low of confidence and self-esteem resulting any more social
problems.
