The Twilight Saga is a series of four vampire-themed fantasy romance

novels by American author Stephenie Meyer. It is a story about Isabella

"Bella" Swan, a girl who moves to Forks, Washington, from Arizona and
falls in love with a 104-year-old vampire named Edward Cullen. The
book is told primarily from Bella's point of view. And by the way, I read
this book in Russian when I was about 11. But I decided to reread it in
the original English. Also there is a film adaptation, that I love and have
watched it for many times.
So the story starts with Bella driving from the airport to her new home.
Her parents are divorced and she decides to live with her father in the
rainiest place in the United States, in the city of Mystic Falls. Bella is 17,
she is not an outgoing girl, she is kind of unlucky and clumsy girl. Her
father's name is Charlie and he's the sheriff of the local police.
She goes to the local school and on the first day Bella sees a strange but
very beautiful family: They are Alice and Jasper, Rosalie and Emmett,
and Edward Cullen. The students say that they are all adopted children
of Dr. Carlisle Cullen and his wife Esme. Bella became very interested in
this family, especially Edward.
At first, Edward avoided Bella and looked at her with hatred, then he
did not appear at all at school for a week, and when he returned, he
suddenly began to communicate with the girl. One day, on a wet school
parking, a student's van skidded and Bella almost got run over (чуть не
попала под колеса). She was saved by Edward, who stopped the car
with his hand. Bella was beginning to realize that Edward was an
unusual person.
Later, Bella learns and reads a lot about the Quileute tribe that lived
here. According to legend, the Quileutes are werewolves, and they feud
with the "cold ones" – vampires.
A hundred years ago, the chief of the tribe made a peace agreement
with the vampires, who hunted only animals. The head of these
unusual vampires was Carlisle Cullen.
Bella realized that Edward could be a vampire and it was dangerous to
communicate with him, but she had already fallen in love with him and
decided to take a chance.
Soon, Bella and her friends went shopping for dresses at the prom,
where Edward again saved her life — scaring off the bullies who
attacked the girl. He found Bella because of his ability to read minds.
It turned out that all the Cullens were vampires. They did not want to
harm people, so they hunted animals and jokingly called themselves
vegetarians.
They started dating. Bella learned that Edward was strong, incredibly
fast, and his skin shone in the sun like a diamond.
Bella's scent was too much for Edward. He didn't touch her because he
was afraid to hurt her and drink her blood. That’s why he was so
strange at first days when they met. Edward was born in Chicago in
1901. When he was seventeen, Dr. Cullen found him dying of Spanish
flu and turned him into a vampire. Edward joined the vampire family.
There were other vampire families besides the Cullens, but most of
them were prédators.
Once Bella met one of the predators and he decided to kill her to get
revenge on one of the Cullen family. He stalked her for a long time, and
the Cullens tried to protect her, but he tricked her into coming to the
ballet studio and attacked her there. But Edward had saved her. In
brief!
Bella knew she would have to become a vampire to be with her love,
but Edward didn't want her to lose her humanity.
The end of the book is not the end of the story, obviously, it is rather
the beginning of a big long story.

“And so the lion fell in love with the lamb…" he murmured. I looked
away, hiding my eyes as I thrilled to the word.
"What a stupid lamb," I sighed.
"What a sick, masochistic lion.”
