Gilded Age.

The students will be able to state interesting facts or

differences in entertainment taste during the Gilded

Age compared to present day.

The students will be able to provide examples of

reasons why the rise of Jim Crow laws brought

discrimination and eventually the Civil Rights

Movement.
IV. Materials Google Slides, Laptop, Google Docs, YouTube
V. A. Introduction 02/11:

The introduction to the class is a question on what

they wanted to grow up as. This is used to get them

thinking about how important education is to them

succeeding in life and how important the Gilded

Age’s improvements are.

02/16:

The introduction is a question about what they look at

for entertainment. This is used throughout the lesson

as an introduction to multiple kinds of entertainment.

02/18:

The question I am using to start this lesson is about

who Jim Crow was. This is to see who knows about

the laws but more importantly those who do not.
B. Procedures 02/11: The students will learn about the lack of

education before the Gilded Age and how it boomed

during this time. They will also learn about the

oppressive behavior towards those of color and

women. They as well will learn about W.E.B. Du

Bois and how he differed from Booker T.

Washington’s view on combatting racism. This will

be written on a PowerPoint where they will copy the

information down.

02/16: The students will learn about entertainment

from Vaudeville, Baseball, Basketball, Football, and

Jazz. They will be given five minute clips on each

and will be directed to put a comment down on each.

02/18: The students will learn about the Jim Crow

Laws during voting and how they were implemented.

Plessy v. Ferguson will be used as a centerpiece for

the start of the separate but equal doctrine. It will

also be explained that it will not be stopped until the

Civil Rights Movement. The NAACP will also be

talked about related to it immediate impact. This will

be written on a PowerPoint where they will copy the

information down.
C. Differentiation Learning Environment: Guided notes given for

periods 3,7 to help aide students with this for an IEP

as well as keeping students engaged.

Content: All necessary information for the lesson is

written on the presentation so the students can be

able to use it as a reference.

D. Closure 02/11: The students will be asked if they missed any

notes to give them plenty of chance to get all the

notes.

02/16: The students will be given the YouTube

videos and directed to use them if they missed any of

the information.

02/18: The students will be asked if they missed any

notes to give them plenty of chance to get all the

notes.
VI. Assessment There will be a guided notes test based on the

Chapter. It will be open notes and based on the

lesson objectives.

VII. Modifications and/or Guided notes are required for multiple kids in periods

Accommodations 3,7.

Extra time for assignments/assessments has been

given so the student can ask questions and stay on

IX. Self-Evaluation The lessons were simple and could have been more

in depth. I was specifically trying to highlight

important information during the period as well as

making sure they knew the information which would

be on the assessment. The students were less

behaved due to the less structure and caused their

grades to slip a little including some of my stronger

students.
