Lesson 2 of Part 1 : The Classical and Behavioral Approaches in Management

Name: William L. Wenceslao Jr. Signature:

A 1 – 1. How will you be able to use the classical approach to management in your job as a
manager?
In today's world, the classical approach remains extremely useful. As a manager I will first assess the
current state of management’s style approaches to its stakeholders particularly those within the
organization’s members and selects which of the best theories can be applied appropriately to an
existing organization. Taylor's time and motion studies are very relevant to me in my current role as a
Production Supervisor; as a Supervisor/Manager, I have already used this idea to gain insight into the
process and to provide me with guidance for any potential problems or issues that I might encounter
during the production process. The classical approach to management is very helpful in learning
organizations due to its ability to be mathematically savvy to produce the best results for an
organization.

A 1 – 3. Discuss the triangular management model as a tool for organizing how a manager
should think about the management process.
The triangular management model describes the sources of information that can be used for analysis of
management problems or issues. The integration of the three basic management approaches within
management system is critical to the effective use of the management system. The manager should
think the management process as a primary tools for implementing organizational objectives along with
the analysis of his organizational systems; internal and or external and to properly use the right sources
of information. Managers should act with caution and pay careful attention to environmental factors
that have a direct impact on the management system. As stated earlier in the text, this is extremely
difficult to monitor, and it takes more time to uncover possible issues and/or opportunities for the
system's overall improvement.

A 1 – 10. Discuss the primary limitations of the classical approach to management. Would
this approach be more useful to managers today than it was to managers in the distant past?
Explain.
The classical approach, according to this text, does not properly account for human variables. This
organizational studies was dominated by a view of organizations as machines. As a result of these
issues, new ideas emerged, such as the behavioral approach to management and so on.

The classical management theory is still important for managers today. While several management
theories have emerged today and are conceptualized specifically to make applicable to specific types of
organizations, The classical approach to management's key goals is efficiency, productivity, and control,
with a focus on "the one best way" to get the job done. This principle is still widely applied to every form
of enterprise today, as companies must remain competitive to stay in the industry.
