Specific Purpose: The students should be able to support the idea that college athletes should be
paid.
Thesis Statement: Colleges need to pay their athletes because they earn a lot of money from the
athlete's participation in sports

Introduction
Discussions on whether student's college athletes should be paid have been ongoing for a
long time now. Over the last decade, the sport has been considered a full-time job for the athletes
and not passing the time. Many colleges have been misusing these athletes despite the
overwhelming growth of college athletics. This growth indicates the additional revenues both the
college and other stakeholders are generating. Some of these college athletes live in poverty
despite being an athlete, which is one of the main reasons they live school early.
I am a student-athlete who considers being an athlete in school as a full-time job. I
believe that I can argue from a personal perspective on why we as athletes should be paid. I
know some athletes share the same sentiments as I do, considering that they are talented and feel
the need for their talents to be appreciated.
To support my statement on why college athletes should be paid, I will go through three
main points. First, college sports are a highly profitable business. Why not give a little to the
athletes who are generating the revenue. Secondly, by paying the student-athletes, the school
helps them invest in their future through savings from earnings since they wont all their lives in
school. Lastly, engaging in sports consumes a lot of the athlete's time. Why not pay them for this.

Conclusion
Paying the school athletes serves as a motivation to them and fosters their career. The
athletes don't spend their whole life in school, so paying them will help appreciate their talents.
The school also needs to share the revenues from sports with these athletes through them, that
the revenues are earned. I also believe that by paying the athletes, they are prepared for their life
after college, for which they need little savings that. Paying them contributes to the savings.
Sports in school is a lucrative business. The school needs to know that these athletes
should be paid for their input. Talented athletes eventually give up because of not being
appreciated. As an athlete, don't quit. The school needs to pay the college athletes.
