Problem Set No. 1: REVIEW OF MATRICES

INSTRUCTIONS:

 Download Module Lecture: 101_-_Review_of_Matrix_Algebra

 Download Module Lecture: 101A_-_Review_of_Matrix_Algebra
 Read each problem carefully and solve the following problems showing all solutions.
 DUE DATE: November 4, 2020 ***LATE WILL NOT BE ENTERTAINED
 Use long bond paper, scan and merge as a PDF File and submit on the ASSIGNMENT TAB of your CANVAS ACCOUNT

1. In reference to 101A_-_Review_of_Matrix_Algebra, solve the unknowns in two ways:

1.1 Method of adjoint in finding the inverse
1.2 Gauss-Jordan method in finding the inverse

2. Solve for the variables using Gaussian Elimination and Gauss Jordan Elimination. In both cases, use the
“augmented matrix form” of the linear system.

x + 2y – 4z + 3w = 4
2x -3y + 5z + w = 7
2x -7y + 9z -2w = 8
3x – 6y +3z + 3w = -1
3. Refer to the Linear System of Problem 1. Obtain the Inverse of the “coefficient matrix” A using 2 methods.

4. Refer to Problem 1. If the four equations are all equated to zero, the system becomes “homogenous”.
What would be the “echelon form” of the equivalent homogenous linear system using Gauss Elimination?

5. Using the “coefficient matrix” A of Problem 1, determine f(A) if f(x) = x3 – 5x2 + 2x - 1
