Introduction,
INTRODUCTION
1. GENERAL
This manual has been compiled in accordance with the requirements set out in ATA 100 specification. It is
prepared to give sufficient information to enable a mechanic, who is unfamiliar with the product, to restore it
to serviceable condition.
2. LAYOUT OF MANUAL
This manual has a general description and operation followed by data for maintenance, repair, disassembly
and assembly of the unit. This is followed by an illustrated parts list which gives detailed information.
3. REVISIONS
This manual will be updated as required by revisions. Service Bulletins may be issued separately. Their effect
on this manual will be made evident by reissue of the appropriate list of Service Bulletins.
4. WARNINGS, CAUTIONS, NOTES
These adjuncts to the text are expressed by the following headings:

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1. GENERAL
A. This chapter consists of information pertaining to configuration, function, operation, and control of the
RECARO Aircraft Seating 4400B TYPE aircraft passenger seats. The data can also be directly used as
a manual for training purposes for the component use in its normal operational setting.
B. Fig 1 shows configurations of the seat assemblies (Seat Assy without IFE) with used cushions and
covers. (The cushion configuration is for seat delivery)
C. Fig 2 shows illustrations with dimensions (Envelope) of the seat assemblies.
D. Fig 3 shows general information of the seat assemblies (Seat Assy without IFE).
E. Fig 4 shows information specific to the A320−200 layout.
2. DESCRIPTION
A. The seat assemblies consist of an aircraft grade aluminum frame assembly with seat pan upholstery, leg
assemblies, footrest assemblies, upholstered seat back assemblies, stowable foodtray assemblies and
upholstered armrests.
B. In−Armrest Tables (IAT) are located in the module assemblies. They are provided for passengers seated
in a position, where there is no access to a standard foodtray.
C. Each seat is provided with a recline control push−button and it is designed to house a passenger control
unit on the upholstered armrests. The center armrest can be folded to stow between the backrest
cushions when not in use.
D. The seat assemblies are attached to the cabin floor with a track fitting in the aft leg and a stud in the
front leg. For desired location of the seat, a quick detach feature permits forward and aft movement in
the floortracks, or complete removal.

3. OPERATION
A. Reclining the seat back assembly
Push the recline control button and apply pressure on the seat back. When the desired position is
achieved, release the recline control button. For full upright position, push the recline control button,
without pressure on the backrest.
B. Foodtray positioning
(1) The foodtray is deployed by turning the lock one quarter turn and pulling it away from the seat
back.
(2) In−Arm Tables (IAT) are deployed by opening the armcap, pivoting the foodtray from the module
and opening the table across the seat. To stow, reverse the above procedure.
C. Handicap Armrest (HC)
Handicap armrest (movable aisle armrest) is mounted on the aisle side of applicable seat assemblies.
By depressing the release button which is located underneath the forward portion of the armrest, the
armrest can be rotated up and out of the way for ease of entry. The armrest locks automatically, when it
is folded down to normal position.

TESTING AND TROUBLE SHOOTING
1. TESTING
A. ARMRESTS
(1) Visually check alignment of the foldable armrests in the deployed and folded position.
B. BACKREST ALIGNMENT AND RECLINE TEST
(1) Visually check alignment of backrests.
(2) Apply a force to the backrest through the recline control button. Backrest should move to full recline
or stop at any position, upon releasing the recline control button.
(3) When the recline control button is pressed with no pressure exerted on the back, the seat should
return to its full upright position.
For any functional problems on the control, refer to the manufacturer Manual.
(4) To adjust the position of the backrest, loosen the nuts (ref. IPL Fig 11, Item 30) and move the
actuator (recline−lock) in or out of the trunnion.
Tighten the nuts when the backrest is in the desired position.
(5) If the backrest does not recline to the desired level, pull the actuator (recline−lock) cap towards the
recline arm and rotate the ears of the cap to the desired position. When the actuator (recline−lock)
cap is released it locks in position. For any functional problems on the actuator (recline−lock), refer
to the manufacturer Manual.

2. Cable Routing
This section gives installation, maintenance and service procedures for proper routing and securing of
electrical cables on the seating equipment of an aircraft. You can apply these general rules to all series of
aircraft passenger seats manufactured by RECARO Aircraft Seating. Refer to the aircraft manufacturer‘s
specifications for OEM requirements and more details.
A. Routing Principles
(1) Make sure that you can access the cables easily for maintenance and repair.
(2) Make sure that the passenger cannot damage the cables.

(8) When cables are next to the moving parts of the seat, route them on both sides of those
moving parts.
(9) Put the breakouts of individual cables next to cable supports or clamping points. This
minimizes the amplitude of vibration transmitted to the breakout wires from the main
harnesses.

B. Clearances
(1) Install cables with sufficient clearance. Make sure the cables will not rub against sharp edges
of structure or equipment (1/8” minimum clearance if there is no secondary protection).
(2) Make sure the cable bundles with low tension are controlled. They must not possibly contact
smooth flat surfaces and metal or plastic parts with a radius of 1/8” or larger.
(3) Do the routing of the wiring for motorized equipment, in−seat power or reading lights apart
from the IFE and communication wiring. Sensitive signals or communication wiring must be a
minimum of one inch apart from electrical wiring. If there is not sufficient space to put the
wiring one inch apart, use a metallic shield that is grounded to the seat structure. This keeps
EMI to a minimum. Refer to Figure 2005.

C. Bend Radius
(1) Bend coaxial cable at a minimum radius of ten times the cable diameter or six times the
diameter if there is not sufficient space. If the radius is too small you can damage the cable
and cannot find the signal. Bend standard wire cable at a minimum radius of three times the
cable diameter. But if possible, use a radius of six times the cable diameter.
(2) Bend a cable bundle at a minimum of six times the diameter of the largest cable in the bundle.
(3) Do not use clamps or let the cable rub against structure. This decreases the cable life.
Increase the bend radius to maximize cable life.
NOTE: If the surface of the cable jacket or sheathing is not smooth, the bendradius is too small.
D. Cable Slack
(1) Apply the tension evenly along the cable bundle.
(2) Make sure that the cable tension is not too high in applicable areas. The procedures that
follow must be possible:
a. replacement of the terminators and/or connectors

b. movement of the hinges or sliding joints
c. removal and replacement of the face−mounted equipment
d. connection or removal of the connectors
e. movement of the equipment to do adjustment, servicing or removal.
(3) Make drip loops so liquids will not drip on or into electrical equipment. Do not use drip loops if
the cable routing will not let liquid run down into the connector. Drip loops are not necessary if
there is a potted connector at the end of wires or connectors. Make sure that the drip loop
does not rub against structure or equipment. If the cable can rub against structure or
equipment, use a sleeve or wind tape around the section of the cable. Do not use drip loops if
the wire is too long. Refer to Figure 2006.

E. Cable Ties
(1) Make sure the cables are sufficiently parallel before you attach them together. Make cable
groups sufficiently parallel before you make cable bundles.
(2) In underseat baggage stow−areas, make sure that the passenger cannot access the cables
and install ties to give the cable sufficient tension in this area.
(3) You can use nylon straps (tie−wraps, panduits etc.) to directly attach the cable ties to smooth
structures.
(4) Cut off the cable ties square and make sure that the cable is flush with the cable tie head to
prevent injury. Refer to Figure 2007.

(5) Where one or more cables go away from a cable bundle, attach each cable group at a
minimum distance of 1 inch. Refer to Figure 2008.

(6) Do not use cable ties when the head of the cable can have an abrasive effect on adjacent

(7) When cable ties go into the foam of the seat (or seat back), turn the cable−tie head to one
side and minimize the risk of damage to the seat cushion.
F. Space between Ties for Bundle Support
(1) Put the ties on cable bundles apart a minimum of 6” and a maximum of 8”.
(2) You can put the ties as required to give sufficient support at bends or at locations where
cables go away or cables are adjacent to parts that move.
G. Clamps
(1) Make sure that you do not attach cable bundles directly to the structure. Use stand−offs and
spacers as an alternative. Refer to Figure 2010.

(2) Use a clamp that is as small as possible and:
a. holds the wiring safely
b. prevents abrasive movement
c. does not bruise the wire
(3) Use standard clamps. It must be easy to remove or replace cable assy’s after you made the
installation.
(4) Make sure that wire bundles or cable bundles have support and are attached safely to prevent
strain on one wire or terminator.
(5) If the diameter of the cable is too small for the clamp, wind the cable in nylon tape before you
use the clamp.
(6) Do not use hook and loop fasteners to attach cable bundles.
H. Connectors
(1) Keep the time you work with connectors and wiring to a minimum to decrease possible
damage to a connector.
(2) Only bend wire conductors when necessary. Replace all cables with damaged insulation.
(3) Examine the wiring frequently for damage. Do not accept cracks, kinks or burned insulation.

(4) Examine the connectors frequently for contamination with metal particles, water, dirt, grease,
oil, carbon or adhesive.
(5) Examine the connectors frequently for bends or corrosion. Keep the connector contacts
straight.
(6) Use standard snug−fitting dust−caps for protection of the disconnected connectors from
damage and contamination. Install dust covers on all connectors to prevent damage.
(7) If you have to disconnect the connectors to do work, protect the connectors from
contamination with metal particles, water, dirt, grease and oil. Use polyethylene bags.
(8) Do a cable routing with minimum strain on connectors and cables.
(9) Give the cables correct tension and use clamps where necessary for protection and to
decrease strain.
(10) You cannot use cables as steps, hand holds or footrests. Install connectors to give necessary
protection from strain.
(11) Attach all connectors safely on the seat structure by one of the procedures that follow:
a. use plastic straps (tie−wraps, panduits etc.)
b. use clamps
c. structure provision (raceway, bracket, etc.)
(12) Attach connectors horizontally to make drainage possible and to prevent condensation or that
liquid collects.
I. Drip Loops for Cables into Video Boxes
(1) To keep liquid from junction boxes, connectors or other items, make a drip loop in the cable
where it enters the item or equipment.
(2) Put the drip loops at applicable positions to give protection for electrical equipment from liquids.
Refer to Figure 2006.
J. How to use ESD (Electrostatic Discharge)−Sensitive Parts and assy’s
(1) Give parts and assy’s protection from damage and contamination during all transportation and
storage periods. Make sure that they will have the necessary conditions that they were made
for. Possible damages are bends, dents, deformation, loose or missing fasteners, wires with
damage or kinks, and electrostatic−discharge damage. Possible contaminations are dirt, dust,
chips, fillings, loose material, solder particles, grease, oil paint, moisture and other unwanted
materials.

NOTE: Cushioning and wrapping materials can be different. Use the material applicable to condition and
environment.
3. How to ground Seats and Seat Equipment
This section gives installation, maintenance and service procedures to sufficiently ground seats and seat
electrical/electronic components.
You cannot ground to seat tracks on modern transport aircraft. All electrical seat and seat related
components must be grounded with the electrical system of the aircraft. Use the correct techniques to ground
and bond on the metal portions of the seat group to ground sufficiently.
NOTE: RECARO seating products are made to agree with the electrical grounding−specifications of the
aircraft manufacturer that were current at the time of manufacture. Specifications continue to change,
and not all products that are in service now agree with the present specifications. For data on how to
make seat electric/electronic equipment agree with current manufacturing specifications, speak with
Seating Aftermarket Operations (BOE) of RECARO about options or quotes. Seating products with
sufficient maintenance usually continue to agree with the certification. But new OEM specifications
can cause the application of different grounding specifications during a long schedule of manufacture
and delivery.
A. How to ground A/C Electrical System
(1) Main static ground for the seat is the grounding connection through the seat−to−seat cable.
This main static ground can be a contact in the seat−to−seat connector or a #10 stud
connected to a ground cable from the seat−to−seat cable. Refer to Figure 2011 for an
example.

(2) Do the static ground connection from the ground stud(s) on the seat structure through a
ground strap (component of the seat−to−seat wiring harness) to the ECU. You can also

C. Grounding Procedures
(1) Make sure that each seat has a #10 ground stud to ground equipment and structures that are
not attached to the main static ground.
(2) If a ground stud needs to be installed, refer to Boeing document BAC5117 for specifications on
surface preparation, materials and testing.
(3) If more than one terminal is installed on the ground stud, put the largest terminal next to the
corrosion−protective washer. Put the other terminals in a sequence that their dimensions
decrease. Put the terminals around the stud with a distance between them if possible. Refer to
Figure 2018.
(4) Make sure that there is a maximum of six terminals on a single ground stud.
(5) If there is not sufficient space you can bend a ground strap terminal 90 degrees one time only.
Make sure that there is sufficient clearance between the terminal shank and the ground stud. It
must be possible to do installation and removal without more bends. The terminal can break if
you bend it frequently.
(6) Use corrosion−protective and pressure−locking washers on ground studs. Refer to Figure
2014 through 2017.

(7) If more than two ground terminals are installed on a ground stud, make sure that protective flat
washers are installed on each side of the terminal. Refer to Figure 2018.

(8) You can turn terminals over to help installations.
(9) Make sure that the nuts on ground studs are torqued correctly. Refer to the aircraft OEM
specifications.
(10) Removal of a ground terminal from a ground stud with more than one terminal: Make sure
that the other terminals are again safely attached by the ground stud to the seat with
applicable procedures. This is necessary to remove a component of the seat for repair or
replacement at a later time.
(11) Removal, installation or replacement of a ground terminal or ground stud: use an ohmmeter
and make sure that resistance to ground is within a satisfactory range. Refer to Figure 2019 to
see a procedure to do the test for resistance to ground with an ohmmeter. Refer to aircraft
OEM specifications for data of stud sizes and maximum resistance.

DISASSEMBLY
1. GENERAL
A. Obey the safety information.
WARNING: ELECTRIC SHOCK
B. Before starting any disassembly work make sure that the electrical parts or components are correctly
switched off and free of electrical load (refer to Schematic and Wiring Diagrams).
C. No special tools, fixtures or equipment are required for disassembly of seat assemblies.
CAUTION: MOVING OR TRANSPORTING THE SEAT ASSEMBLIES BY SLIDING THEM ACROSS FLOOR
SURFACES WILL DAMAGE THE TRACK ATTACHMENT FITTINGS OR MOUNTING
SURFACES BY THE ABRASIVE REMOVAL OF METAL FROM THESE CRITICAL AREAS.
D. After removal of the seat assembly from the aircraft, the use of a suitable frame to simulate the
appropriate aircraft mounting provisions is recommended to facilitate maintenance and repair.
CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE RIVET−MOUNTED ASSEMBLIES OR COMPONENT PARTS UNLESS

DAMAGE NECESSITATES REPLACEMENT OF AN AVAILABLE PART. REPEATED REMOVAL
AND REINSTALLATION OF RIVETS WILL CAUSE FATIGUE OF THE ADJACENT MATERIAL.
DAMAGE IN THESE AREAS WILL NORMALLY REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OF THE NEXT
HIGHER ASSEMBLY. REFER TO THE ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST WHICH HAS A COMPLETE
ENUMERATION OF THE AVAILABLE PARTS.
E. Complete disassembly of the seat assembly is neither anticipated nor recommended. The degree of
disassembly carried out should not be more than necessary. For the identification of damage or
functional failure refer to page 5001 CHECK and page 1001 TESTING AND TROUBLE SHOOTING.
2. PROCEDURE
NOTE: Item numbers are used in the detailed procedures .Therefore refer to the mentioned IPL Figure in one
higher−ranking step if no IPL Figure is specified to the item number.
NOTE: Sequence of disassembly can be changed.
A. Removal of the Seat Assembly from the Aircraft
(1) To remove a seat assembly from an aircraft or any simulated mounting fixture, disengage the
track−fitting located on the aft leg assy. Make sure that the anti−rattle device has been sufficiently
loosened for removal of fitting from the track.

(2) Move the seat assy 1/2 inch forward or aft and lift it from the mounting tracks.
B. Removal of the Seat Cushion and Covers

(Refer to the Description and Operation chapter)
(1) Remove seat covers and cushions from seatpan.
NOTE: The covers and cushions are attached with hook and loop tapes, remove with care to avoid
damaging the covers and cushions.
(2) Remove headrest covers and cushions from backrest structure.
(3) Remove backrest covers and cushions from backrest structure.
C. Removal of the Headrest Assembly
(1) Remove headrest clip (3−70) from the guide track (3−60).
(2) Push the headrest (2−10) upward from the guide tracks (3−60).
D. Removal of the Backrest Assembly
(1) Release the actuator (8−10) and remove the ES−bolt (11−50).
(2) Remove the applicable seat pan attachments (refer to figure 9).
(3) Remove the screw (4−20), washers (4−30), the seatpan washer (4−70), seatpan spring (4−40) from
the backrest lever and from the flange bushings (4−50), (4−60) and seat divider.
(4) Remove the backrest (3−20) from the seat base frame.
(5) Remove the flange bushings (4−50), (4−60) from the seat divider.
(6) Remove the seat pan springs (3−40) from the backrest lever.
E. Removal of the IAT Armrest Assembly
(1) Remove the seat belt shackle (refer to figure 10A and step F.).
(2) Disconnect and remove the actuation control (6−100) from the IAT armrest.
(3) Remove screw (6−30) and washer (6−40) from the IAT armrest and seat divider.

(4) Remove clamps (6−350) from the IAT armrest and beams.
(5) Remove the IAT armrest from the seat base frame.
F. Removal of the Seat Belt Attachment
(1) Remove screw (10A−50), washer (10A−60) and bushing (10A−40) from the structure.
(2) Remove the seat belt limiter (10A−30) and seat belt shackle (10A−20) from the attachment.
G. Removal of the Center Console Armrest
(1) Remove the seat belt shackle (refer to figure 10).
(2) Remove the kickpanels from the seat structure (refer to figure 12 and step H.).
(3) Remove the life vest container attachments from the structure (refer to figure 15 and step I.).
(4) Remove clamps (5−280) from the center console and beams.
H. Removal of the Kickpanel
(1) Remove screws (12−20) and washers (12−40) from the center console structure.
(2) Remove screws (12−30), washers (12−40) and the bushings (12−50) from the seat base frame.
(3) Remove the kickpanels from the seat base frame.
I. Removal of the Life Vest Container
(1) Remove screws (15−30) and washers (15−40) from the center console armrest.
(2) Remove screws (15−20) and washers (15−50) from the structure.

C. Leathers should be cleaned with commercial saddle soaps. Do not use detergents.
NOTE: ALWAYS DRY THOROUGHLY WITH A LINT FREE CLOTH.
D. Use only soapy water for the seat belts and for the armrest covers and rinse with clean water.

CHECK
1. GENERAL
A. The objective checking with the values of intervals for the process of checking is listed in the following
table.
B. Perform a GVI (General Visual Inspection) every 5000 flight hours for the seat structure.
C. Perform a GVI additionally on occurrence of special events:
(1) Hard landing
(2) Overweight landing
(3) Engine in flight shutdown (windmilling)

2. VISUAL CHECK
A. Carry out visual checks every 5000 flight hours. Write all the damage detected, current condition, the
cause and/or the source. Immediately repair all the damage found.
B. Visually inspect all hardware, piece parts, minor assemblies and sub−assemblies. A strong light and
preferably some means of magnification is necessary.
C. Visually check for missing, loose or broken parts and hardware.
3. CHECKS
A. Proper reassembly and adjustment of a seat assembly precludes any additional checks. However, prior
to disassembly or following any significant repair, perform the following visual checks, as applicable:
(1) Seat Belt
(2) Check seat assembly for rigidity of mounting hardware.

(3) Check complete seat assembly for missing, loose, damaged or worn parts.
(4) Check all seat functions (recline and upright) for correct action and freedom of operation.
(5) Check all upholstered areas for condition of fabric, especially noting looseness, frayed edges, loose
seams and correct alignment of hook− and looptape fastened covers.
(6) Check the HC mechanism for proper unlocking and locking.

(ref chapter 6001 for repair of the seat divider handicap mechanism)
(7) Check the seat belts for missing, loose, damaged or worn parts.
(8) Check all seatbelts for condition, especially nothing looseness, frayed edges, loose seams and
correct function.
Replace webbing if any of the following manufacturer instructions (Am−Safe Inc.) are observed:
(a) A limited amount of frayed webbing will retain sufficient strength necessary to meet the
required strength. Frayed webbing is defined as broken filaments from either the warp
(longitudinal) yarns or the filler (transverse) yarns. The number of broken filaments should not
be sufficient to obscure the identity of any yarn when viewed from a distance of about 8
inches.
(b) Any web that is cut or torn on the edge should be replaced.
(c) The amount of fray should be limited to an amount that is less than 10% of the width of the
webbing and not to exceed 8 inches in length.
(d) Webbing with more than 15 broken yarns in locations other than the edge.
(e) Webbing that is frayed or distorted sufficiently to cause improper operation of any portion of
the restraint system.
(f) A total of 15 stitches can be torn in a stitch pattern before the webbing needs replacement.
(9) Check foodtray for security or attachment in stowed position and for correct height and tilt level in
the deployed position.
(10) Check the lifevest pouch under the seat for damaged material.
(11) Check track fitting and track studs for secure attachment to the floor track. Also check for wear or
deformation of these parts. If a locking clip on rear fitting is available, the upper surface must be
levelled for positive locking.
(12) Check the dimensions.

Follow the airline’s own standard component tolerances for scratches, cuts, dents etc.
Replace damaged plastic and metal components. Replace damaged or worn dress covers and cushions.
Covers and cushions of the seat assemblies are certified to meet the requirments FAR 25.853(c).

4. REPAIR OF DAMAGED POWDER−COATED PAINT
It may occur, that the paint or powder−coated layer peel off in flakes occasionally. Check the powder coated
areas for any damage on the paint. The damage necessitates repair the flaked area as instructed below:
A. Remove the thin flat flakes and rub the surrounding area, where the paint came off or broken. Assure
that the area is free of broken flakes.
WARNING: ACETONE IS EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE.
B. Clean the area with acetone.
NOTE: Assure that the area is properly cleaned.
C. Refer to the manufacturers instructions and paint the area with a suitable brush using the following
lacquer:

5. INSTRUCTIONS FOR REPAIRING AIRCRAFT SEAT CUSHIONS

(REF TO VENDOR MANUAL QM−ARBEITSANWEISUNG NR.: 0044.B)
A. PROCESS
(1) Material
For repairing aircraft seat cushions, made by Metzeler Schaum GmbH, it is necessary to use
Metzeler approved materials. That means, foams, reinforcement, fire blocking layer, hook/loop
tapes, labels and adhesive must be only from Metzeler Schaum GmbH in Memmingen, Germany. It
depends on the cushion, which material is to select.

Detachements of adhesive joints or cracks of seat cushions can be repaired as

follows:
(a) Adhesive Mixture

100 parts by weight adhesive and 7 parts by weight hardener shall be mixed together.
This mixture stored in a closed container is useable up to 24 hours. In a open container
it is useable up to 6 hours, as the time is reduced.

(b) Working Procedure

The repair must be done in a room with a temperature of more than 65 degree F (18 degree
C) and a relative atmospheric moisture is about 50 %. It is not allowed to work in the aircraft.
(c) The adhesive/hardener−mixture can be distributed by brush or better spraying gun on both
sides, which must be glued together, as required.
(d) It shall be dried for 90−120 seconds in air.

After that time the parts shall be pressed together.

6. PAINTING−PROCEDURE
A. Mask off the surrounding area and lightly grind surface to be painted.
B. Rub paint from the metal parts and clean all metal surfaces with thinner Alexit 62.
WARNING: CONDUCT ALL PAINTING OPERATIONS IN WELL VENTILATED AREA EQUIPPED TO

REMOVE FUMES AND DUST PARTICLES FROM THE SURROUNDING WORKING AREA.
AVOID BREATHING PAINT VAPOURS. USE RUBBER GLOVES, PVC APRON, PROTECTIVE
GOGGLES AND FILTER MASK WHEN SPRAY PAINTING.
C. Repaint each part in accordance with manufacturer instructions.

ASSEMBLY
1. GENERAL
A. Before assembly, make sure that the CLEANING, CHECK and the REPAIR of all component parts has
been carried out.
B. After repair or replacement of any damaged or worn parts, re−assemble the seat assembly following
accepted workshop practices, noting the following detailed instructions. Use a tracking fixture to support
the seat structure.
C. Refer to the exploded−view illustrations in the Illustrated Parts List for location, sequence, quantity and
identification of assemblies, sub−assemblies and parts. These Illustrations are also intended as a
guideline for the assembly procedure.
D. Whenever possible, replace low cost items during re−assembly to prevent possible future maintenance
work as a result of failure of these parts.
E. Replace the self−locking nuts and the pins before assembly.
2. LIST OF MATERIALS
Refer Section REPAIR, Table 6001 for list of materials.
3. PROCEDURE
NOTE: In order to avoid errors during assembly, refer to the marking or numbering of the component parts.
Refer to TABLE 8001 in the FITS AND CLEARANCES chapter for the specified Torque Values.
NOTE: Item numbers are used in the detailed procedures .Therefore refer to the mentioned IPL Figure in one
higher−ranking step if no IPL Figure is specified to the item number.
NOTE: Sequence of assembly can be changed.
A. Installation of the Life Vest Container
(1) Mount the life vest container (15−10) onto the seat frame
(2) Install screws (15−80).
(3) Attach screws (15−70) and slot nuts (15−60).
(4) Attach screws (15−20) and washers (15−50) to life vest container and the seat structure.

(5) Attach screws (15−30) and washers (15−40) onto the center console armrest.
B. Installation of the Kickpanel
(1) Mount the kickpanel onto the seat base.
(2) Attach with screws (12−30), washers (12−40) and the bushings (12−50) onto the seat structure.
(3) Install screws (12−20) and washers (12−40) onto the center console structure.
C. Installation of the Center Console Armrest
(1) Mount center console armrest onto the seat base.
(2) Attach with clamps (5−280) onto beams.
(3) Attach the life vest, kickpanel and seat belt attachments (refer to figures 10, 12, 15.
D. Installation of the Seat Belt Attachment
(1) Mount seat belt limiter (10A−30) and seat belt shackle (10A−20) to the structure.
(2) Attach with screw (10A−50), washer (10A−40) and bushing (10A−40).
E. Installation of the IAT Armrest Assembly
(1) Mount the IAT armrest onto the seat base frame.
(2) Attach with clamps (6−350) to the beams.
(3) Install screw (6−30) and washer (6−40) to the IAT armrest and seat divider.
(4) Install the actuation control (6−100).
(5) Attach seat belt attachments (refer to figure 10A).
F. Installation of the Backrest Assembly
(1) Mount backrest onto the seat base.
(2) Attach backrest with attaching parts; screws (4−20), washers (4−30), seatpan washer (4−70),
seatpan spring (4−40), backrest lever and flange bushings (4−50), (4−60) to seat divider.
(3) Attach seatpan and actuator attachments (refer to figures 9, 11).
G. Installation of the Headrest Assembly
(1) Install headrest (2−10) to guide tracks (3−60) and install headrest clips (3−70).

NOTE: The seat assemblies are essentially corrosion−resistant. Thus, special preservation materials
are not required under ordinary storage conditions.
(1) Wrap seats with Kraft Paper (Federal specification UU−P−27 or equivalent). Seal all edges include
the seat legs with reinforced sealing tape. Seat backs may be folded forward, except backrests
with ”no−breakover” (ref. emerg. exit).
(2) Identify packaged seat assemblies by writing the assembly partnumber, serial number and repair
date.
(3) Store packaged seat assemblies in a cool, dry area away from any heat source, direct sunlight at a
temperature of 10 to 35 degrees C (50 to 95 degrees F) and a humidity < 65%.

2. TRANSPORTATION
A. General Instructions
(1) It is recommended to use the original standard RECARO packing system for transport, as it is well
designed to meet the airline requirements. Refer to ATA Specification 300 for more details, if
anything specifically requested.
(2) The container shall be constructed of cardboard, fibreboard or plywood, providing sufficient
protection with a minimum of tare weight. Do not use straps and buckles as closing devices. Two
opposite sides, left and right should be marked with red arrows to indicate the top, with a minimum
length of 6”/150mm. The surface of the container shall be water spray resistant. The container
inside shall be shock absorbing and shall not be dust producing. containers shall be allowing at
least 4.5”/115mm ground clearances for handling purpose.
(3) The following information is required on the unit. Refer ATA 300 for marking methods.
