Topic: Digitally Connecting to Parents

Article Link Parent Engagement in the Digital Age

Summary This article explains how different studies have proven that digital contact
with parents has improved students' lives for the better. With easy apps,
texts and emails the school can send out reminders, newsletters, and
personal student updates. One study showed that there was actually an
increase in student attendance due to daily texts informing parents when
their students are late or absent to a class. Apps such as Classdojo and
Seesaw allow the teacher to send personalized and age appropriate
literacy tools to practice at home. This allows the parents to feel more
connected with their student and overall more involved now that they have
a bit more insight as to what their child is learning or how they are doing in
school.

Evaluation and I think there are pros and cons to connecting digitally with parents. I guess
Opinions you can say I sit more on the old school fence of doing things. It is very
handy that schools are able to send out reminders and newsletters via text
and emails, this makes it easier on the parents so they know right away
and aren’t waiting until the end of their day to pull it out of their child's
backpack. On the other hand can it sometimes be too much? I feel as
though there is a generous amount of parents who easily brush off these
reminders because they get them; the importance of the message is now
lost and overlooked. In a few other articles I read I saw the introduction of
zoom parent teacher meetings, yes this is convenient for many but can it
also be an easy way out? What happened to building relationships with
your childs’ teacher and your students' parents. Without those real
connections how can we fully support each other? It’s not as thought we.ve
never done in person meetings and old school sending newsletter home. I
find comfort in both with the right amount of each.
