policy cowards Iran: democracy, himan rights, and holding human rights abusers accountable.
‘The deste ofthe Iranian people to achieve freedom and democracy is evident in the several rounds
‘of protests in over 100 cities across Ian since 2017, as people have called for an end to the regime in
Tehran and the establishment ofa democratic republic. Despite these countless protests and calls for
1 democratic government, the Iranian regime has commited egregious violations of human rights ~
the massaere of thousands of political prisoners in 198, the kiling of 1,900 protesters in November
2019, and the murder ofthe Baluchi people in February 2021. The Iranian regime must be held
accountable fr these crimes agunst humanity. Therefore we support the United States”
involvement in an international investigation ino the 1988 killings of lranian dissidents. The United
States and its allies should work to hold the regime accountable for terrorism against dissidents
abroad,
‘With the introduction of this resolution, a bipartisan coalition of members of Congress
‘encourages all efforts to recognize the rights of the Iranian people and thei struggle to establish
1 democrat, secular, and non-nuclear republic of Iran while holding the ruling regime
