Learning Objective WHI.15 The student will apply
social science skills to understand
the developments leading to the
Renaissance in Europe in terms of
its impact on Western civilization by
a) determining the economic
and cultural foundations of the
Italian Renaissance;
b) sequencing events related
to the rise of Italian city-states and
their political development, including
Machiavelli’s theory of governing as
described in The Prince;
c) citing the contributions of
artists and philosophers of the
Renaissance, as contrasted with the
medieval period, including Leonardo
da Vinci, Michelangelo, and
Petrarch; and
d) comparing and contrasting
the Italian and the Northern
Renaissance, and citing the
contributions of writers.
Activity -The teacher will use a powerpoint
to describe key people, events, and
ideas of the Italian Renaissance.
The teacher will use the powerpoint
to show examples of Italian
Renaissance era art and explain the
significance of Renaissance figures.
-Students will use Chegg online
study guides and resources on the
Renaissance to help them construct
their own flash cards of key
concepts.
-The teacher will go over Chegg and
show students where they can find
example flashcards and study
guides. The teacher will also pass
out their own study guide of key
concepts that will be on the test so
students know what to add to their
flashcards.
-Students will then get into small

-The teacher will organize an Italian
Renaissance quiz on Kahoot as an
interactive game for students to
prepare for their test.
-The students will stay in their small
groups of three or four and play
Kahoot as a team. The class will
have a BYOD policy and one
person from each group will be
elected to select the final answer for
each question after collaborating
with the group.
-Whichever team gets the most
points on the Kahoot quiz will be
awarded with bonus points on the
Renaissance test by the teacher.
