ACTIVITY 2: PRIVILEGE WALK

A. What do you feel about the video?
I felt overwhelmed and emotional as I watch the video. At first, it was just a race;
but, as the host mentioned situations wherein if it applies to an individual, he/she can move
two jumps forward. As the distance between those who can relate and those who cannot;
widened in just a nick of time, I was dumbfounded with the privileges others have and also
with those who don’t attain them.
B. What are your realizations after the activity?
I realized that each and every one of us may or may not possess the same privilege
that we have right now. With these privileges, some may enjoy it and take advantage of it;
while some are begging or be envious of others because they don’t have any. Some may have
that boost to remain on top of their game while others are like a blank slate, plain and just got
started.
We can’t get rid of these privileges, we just have to live with them. If you possess a
lot of privileges, lucky you, you don’t have much to worry about and you just need to
improve and do your best and make use of those privileges. If you don’t possess many
privileges, I root for you, why? Because things may be tough but if endurance, determination,
and faith, you can push through and make it.
With every privilege that I possess, I will not brag and take advantage of it. Instead, I
will make use of it for the greater good and embrace it till I have it in my teen days. I know
that as I get older every year, the privileges will be gone before I know and I am grateful for
my parents for gifting me with those privileges. Once I step out there in the real world and
strive for my own self, I will surely miss those privileges that have been given to me.
C. What social issues can you enumerate from the activity?
Inequality, poverty, education, hunger, unplanned parenthood, divorce, family
problems are just some of the social issues that I can recall from the video that I watched.
These problems are rooted in families and emerge throughout society which can affect life.
D. How are these issues related to development?
With these social issues escalating rapidly, the development of an individual, family,
society, community, and a country can be affected. If these issues can be properly addressed
and solved, we can make sure that development will emerge and take place.
If these issues are emerging then it can hinder development. If no issues are emerging
then development is on the rise. If there are a lot of issues emerging, then development is in
the fall. But, keep in mind that with these issues, you can think of possible solutions that can
bring a great contribution to the development of the country.
