Computer System Components Guide

The document contains answers to questions about computer components and memory types. It defines input and output devices, describes the main components of the central processing unit, and provides short definitions of the mouse, touch screen, monitor, and RAM. It then differentiates between PROM and EEPROM, noting that PROM is permanent memory that can only be written to once while EEPROM is temporary memory that can be written to and erased multiple times.

Answer the following questions.

Q.No.1 List and describe the main components of system. (Mark=4)

Answer:

The main components of system:

 Input devices
 CPU
 Output devices
Input devices: The data that is given to the computer is called input. Input devices are used to input
data and instructions given to the computer. Most commonly input devices are keyboard, mouse
and microphone etc.

CPU: CPU stands for central processing unit. It is also called the brain of computer. All computers
must have a central processing unit. CPU consists of two parts:

 Control unit
 Arithmetic and Logic unit
The primary work of CPU is to convert data from input, process it and produced output in useful
information.

Output devices: The devices which are used to receive data and information from the computer are
called output devices. In other words, Output is the data that has been processed into useful form.
Most commonly output devices are monitor, printer and speaker etc.
Q No.2: Writer short answers of the following in 2-3 Lines each. (Mark=4)

 Mouse
 Touch screen
 Monitor
 RAM
Answer: Mouse: A mouse is an input device that rolls around on a flat surface and controls the
pointer on a display screen. A mouse is a palm size device with a ball built into the bottom. Usually
mouse has three buttons. This type mouse called scroll mouse. The ball in the mouse is called scroll
wheel. A mouse can perform:
 Left mouse button
 Right mouse button
 Wheel button
Touch screen: Touch screen is an input device. Touch screen is a display screen that receives input
from the touch of the finger. The screen is covered by plastic layer. Touch screen is a sensitive
device. A user can interacts directly with computer by touching the words on the screen.
Monitor: The monitor is a most commonly used output device. Monitor is also called display or
screen. Monitor or display devices are used to get output on the screen. Monitor is like a small
television. It is used to display soft copy output. There are two basic types of monitor:
 CRT (cathode ray tube)
 Flat panel monitor
Ram: Ram stand for Random Access Memory. Ram is temporary memory. It is store data and
instruction temporarily. Ram is a volatile memory. Ram is also called main memory or primary
storage. Ram has two types:

 Dynamic ram
 Static ram
No. 3: Differentiate between PROM and EEPROM (Mark=4)
