Coded “Raw” Data: Here, insert LEGIBLE images or screenshots that show the coding you
have done to your raw data. In other words, show me which segments of your data you have
coded, what colors and symbols you used to code your data, the words you used to code, and so
on.
Reflection: Briefly answer the following questions. (Your responses should be 1-3 sentences per
question.)
1. What patterns do you notice in your data? What words, phrases, or ideas seem to repeat?
Seems that tools from the activity system frame seem to repeat a lot. I think it’s because there’s a
lot of different tools you can use in coding, but you can’t really categorize together because they
all have their different purposes.
2. Which of the codes in your “data coding key” seem to best explain your data? Why?
Usually either the comments or the output, since it’s the best way to see, for the comments, an
explanation of different areas or suggestions, or as for the output, the best way to see what the
code ends up creating.
3. How do your codes relate to your research question?
They focus on each of the different parts of coding that are commonly used and are required to
be able to make something out of coding.
4. What conclusions can you draw from the patterns you identified?
Even in professional coding, they seem to have a lot of similarities at face value to coding done
in early college.
5. What did you learn by engaging in this coding process?
It’s much easier to categorize code than I initially thought. I thought it’d be harder, since it
contains a smaller conventional use of language.
