We, the younger ones, should pay even more attention to what they need,
recognizing the impact of aging on older adults. Understanding their disabilities.
Giving them special attention, caring and compassion.

Older adulthood would be the lifespan stage I would find most

difficult to deal with in a health and human services environment. In a
different generation, older adults have been born and developed, which
means it can be difficult for someone like me to communicate with their
values, language and culture. Older adults also have a great deal of
experience that can scare them. Their experience levels may then lead
them not to respect my opinion and the service I provide. Older people
are also vulnerable to loss of memory, but also to changes in behaviour
that could affect their daily living. As they feel they have more expertise
and experience, older people may not take advice from younger
individuals. It is also deemed insensitive for young people to offer advice
to older people in certain societies. They usually experience chronic
health condition like stoke, heart disease, diabetes respiratory illnesses
and cancer. They also experience dementia where elderly lose cognitive
functions. Depression is also prevalent as a side effect of the chronic
condition they have. Physical injury is also included because aging causes
bones to shorten and muscles to lose strength, causing them to lose
balance and bone fracturing. Sensory conditions such as vision and
hearing are also more likely to experience aging. Finally, due to side
effects of chronic disorders and not eating well-balanced diets, they
suffer incontinence and constipation.

We, the younger ones, should pay even more attention to what they
need, recognizing the impact of aging on older adults. Understanding
their disabilities. Giving them special attention, caring and compassion.
