Virtual Tour

I personally really enjoy art and have been to the Dayton Art Museum many times to go

look at the gorgeous art, so for my project I chose to do a virtual tour of the Brera Art Gallery in

Italy. This art museum is very beautiful and is full of very famous Christian paintings that can

even be seen in the book. There are plenty of statues to go with all of these paintings that all look

so lifelike. It feels as though you can touch them through the screen. It's an incredible art exhibit

and I would highly recommend doing the virtual tour! I looked at 4 or 5 different art museums

and chose this one because of how beautiful everything comes together. Though it is Italy it feels

like I took a field trip to Rome. The columns have a lot of detail and look exactly like ones that

you would have seen in Rome way back in the day.

There are a few of Michelangelo pieces that really stand out to me and my favorite one is,

The Last Supper. This piece has very beautiful colors and the people that are painted are very

lifelike as well. Jesus seems so at peace considering he knows that he is going to die soon. This

relates to the course because the last supper was a very important event in Christianity. Jesus had

one final meal with his disciples before he died because he knew he was going to be killed by the

Romans. They broke bread and ate it. This symbolized the body of Christ and the wine that they

drank symbolized the blood of Christ. Jesus was then crucified by the order of Pontius Pilate the

next day.
Throughout the art museum there are many different paintings of Jesus, angels, and the

virgin Mary. These paintings all have tremendous detail. Many of the paintings of the angels

seem to have a spotlight cast upon them. This enhances the painting and makes the angels seem

even more holy. There is a painting of Mary taking a break from walking in Egypt. This relates

to the class because Mary went on a great journey to escape the rule of Herod The Great because

he was slaughtering children. This painting really hits home with me because I am a Christian

and the whole situation sounds horrendous. I could not imagine having to flee my country just to

protect my child from slaughter.

Another beautiful painting is the Cristo alla colonna painted by Donato Bramante. This

painting shows what seems to be a portrait of Jesus. The painting has tremendous detail and

shows Jesus tied to a column with a very beautiful oasis background. This relates to the course

because Jesus is considered to be our savior in Christianity. He died for our sins so that we can

live a good life.

In conclusion, this art museum had an excellent virtual tour and it has many Christian

paintings that are seen in the book. The artwork is very beautiful and every painting that I saw in

the museum had its own story to go with it. The paintings depict many different scenes including

the Last Supper and the painting of Mary taking a break from walking on her Journey to escape

Herod The Great. There are also lots of great Roman style columns, as well as sculptures that

look very lifelike. I didn't think that I would enjoy looking at religious art, but it is actually quite

fun and would maybe like to visit Italy someday to go see these paintings in person. Next time I

go to a museum I will have to spend some time looking for the religious art pieces because they

are stunning at the Brera art museum.
