Clock Synchronization
Proper clock synchronization is mandatory for SDH systems. You need at least one external clock
source (PRC) for your network. In case you don't have one, you might consider taking the clock
from a PDH signal. By default, the hiT70xx uses the internal oscillator in free running mode. To
make the multiplexer using an external timing source, you have to add one in <Configuration-
>Synchronization Management>.

© 2010 Siemens AG 44
Surpass hiT 7025 and 7060 Commissioning Guide

Hover the mouse over the port that you want to use as clock source and select “Add” in the context
menu.

© 2010 Siemens AG 45
Surpass hiT 7025 and 7060 Commissioning Guide

Once a clock source is defined, you can change some parameters. Most important is the priority:
lower values outplay higher values. The hiT 70xx always selects the clock with the best quality, but
when several equal clocks are available, then the priority decides.

pressing “Set Mode”.

Protection
The hiT offers different methods of protection: hardware protection and path protection. If you have
e.g. a second cross connector card for hardware protection, the active one is identified by the “ACT”
LED. You can manually switch the active card by selecting <Configure->CC 1+1 Protection>. When
you select “Manual Switch” and the selected card becomes faulty, the multiplexer will still switch
over to the other card. However, when you select “Forced Switch”, the automatic switchover is
deactivated.

In order to get hardware protection for E1 cards, you have to define an equipment protection group:

Path protection comes in different flavors. One is MSP (Multiplexer Section Protection). MSP can
be activated by selecting <Configuration->MSP Management> and then pressing the “Create”
button.

Another method is MS-SPRing (Multiplexer Section Shared Protection Ring). MS-SPRing allows to
use the bandwidth, that is used for protection, for traffic as well, as long as to protection is active.
To set up MS-SPRing, select <Configuration->MS-SPRing Management> and press the “Create”
button.

Enter a name for the new ring, enter the number of network elements in the protected ring and click
“OK”.

Saving / Restoring the MIB

Select NE MIB Management->To Local Folder. The MIB Management dialog allows you to upload
the current configuration to your PC, to download a previously saved configuration to the hiT and to
erase the current configuration (this option is inactive until you've uploaded the current
configuration to your computer)

After uploading, find your file in <C:\Program Files\Nokia Siemens Networks\TNMS

CT\NStar\SURPASS hiT 7060 4.2\build\ftproot\mibs\X.X.X.X> where X.X.X.X is the IP address of
your hiT.
