Introduction
When wanting to look beautiful or feel assertive, some women want to build upon
natural beauty. One way that women find to do this is makeup. Makeup can be worn in
many occasions such as celebratory occasions, dinner outings, day to day ware, and on
days when someone is at home. Many women wear makeup for many different reasons,
those of which include to hide their insecurities, to be considered desirable to others, and
the most common, to feel more confident about themselves. There are many different
situations as to how a girl should wear her makeup, some examples are a glamorous
look, a more natural look, and a simple look. If someone is in a rush and doesn’t have
time to create a glamorous makeup look, there are quick and easy steps on how to create
an easy makeup look and the results will leave a girl looking amazing. Here are some tips
Materials
For this tutorial the materials needed are a sponge, a foundation brush, a blush
brush, and a concealer brush. The makeup products needed for this simple tutorial are
primer, foundation, concealer, blush, mascara, lip gloss, and a lipstick is optional. When
starting off a makeup look, one direction is to start off with the complexion. In this
tutorial the complexion involves materials such as primer, foundation concealer, and
blush.
To start off, it is important to prepare the face with a primer so that the makeup
will not separate on the face throughout the time that it is worn. Depending upon the type
of primer, pump or squeeze a small amount onto the fingertips and rub both sets of
fingertips together. It is important to apply in most areas of the face, especially the T-
zone, which includes the forehead, the nose, and the chin. It is also important to apply
primer to areas where the skin could get oily or dry which vary depending upon the
person.
When finished applying the primer, the next step is applying foundation.
Foundation is used to set a firm base for makeup, but also to cover discoloration of the
skin and to set an even skin tone. To apply foundation, pump about 1-2 pumps of the
foundation onto the back of the hand, and dip the index finger into a small amount of the
foundation. Next, dot the foundation in essential areas of the face, such as the forehead,
chin, and cheeks. Once the application is finished, use the foundation brush to buff and
blend out the foundation on the face until there is enough coverage. Foundations vary

with coverage, there is less, medium, and full coverage that are within different
foundations.. Each person will choose a specific type of foundation depending upon the
amount of coverage that is desired. It is important to dampen the sponge that was listed in
the materials by wetting the sponge and squeezing all the excess water out it. According
to Allie Glines, a self-taught makeup artist, in her video, How to Avoid “Cakey”Makeup,
Glines says, “Using a damp sponge is also so key in creating a beautiful, flawless, natural
looking base.” (Glines, 7:14-7:19). The sponge is not only used to blur brush strokes, but
allow the foundation to melt more into the skin. When the sponge is applied, it is most
The third step in this tutorial is the application of concealer. Concealer is used to
cover blemishes and dark spots, but also used to brighten up areas of the face such as the
undereye area. To apply concealer, use the applicator to place concealer in places such as
the center of the forehead, center of the chin, and underneath the eyes. To blend out the
concealer, use fingertips or a concealer brush. Then, use the same sponge to smooth and
The fourth step for this tutorial is applying blush. Blush adds more color to the
cheeks. To apply, dip the blush brush into the blush pan or container, smile while
applying to the apples of the cheeks, as well as just below the cheekbone. When finished,
use the sponge in the front and on the edges of the cheeks, to melt the blush into the skin,
The second to last area of the face in this makeup routine will be the eyes. The
product that will be used on the eyes is mascara. Mascara is used to darken and allow the
eyelashes to become more voluminous. To apply mascara, look up and start at the base of
the upper lashes, blink into the wand repeatedly, and cover all top lashes. For bottom,
take caution and apply lightly. The makeup brand, Ipsy writes “...use the tip of the wand
and apply your mascara just at the roots of the lashes, wiggling the bristles back and forth
for an even coat.” (Price, Ipsy). To create the desired volume of the lashes, re-apply the
mascara for extra coats on both sets of lashes; at least two-three coats are desired to
create a voluminous effect. If there are mascara marks left up or below the eye area,
when the marks are dry, use a smaller brush to wipe the marks away.
The last area for this simple makeup tutorial is the lips. Lipstick and lipgloss are
used to add color and shine to the lips, but is also used to make the lips look plumper.
Applying lipstick is simple and just involves two easy steps. For the bottom lip, first run
the lipstick in a back and forth motion until there is total coverage on the lip. For the
upper lip, run the lipstick along the lip with a small amount of product. Most of the focus
should be put on the outer area of the lip and should emphasize the ridges on the lip.
Once lipstick is fully applied, apply lip gloss. Lip gloss should be applied to the center of
the bottom lip, and applied lightly on the top lip. Finally when lipstick and gloss are
applied, run the top and bottom lip together so that color and coverage is evenly spread.

comfortable with themselves. There are many different ways to do makeup, and it is
important to experiment with makeup products so that an individual can get comfortable
with a routine. However, everyone is different and has a preference as to how makeup
should be worn. This makeup tutorial was made so that anyone who is a beginner, who is
in a rush, or is having a lazy makeup day, can have access on how to create a simple
