Survey of teachers attitudes to teaching Education for Sustainable Development

and Global Citizenship Education (UNESCO)

1. Introduction and the objective of the survey

UNESCO contracted PPMI to develop to undertake a global survey of teachers in primary and
secondary education on their readiness to integrate Education for Sustainable Development
(ESD) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED) into their teaching. The goal of this survey is to
better understand the perspective of teachers towards ESD and GCED topics and their inclusion
to teaching curriculum, to better understand what approaches towards ESD and GCED are used
by the teachers, and to assess what training and support is currently provided to the teachers
regarding the ESD and GCED topics in various countries and regions. The main objective of the
survey and analysis of the collected data is to assess how prepared and supported primary
and secondary school teachers feel to integrate ESD and GCED into their teaching practices.

collected using Alchemer are sent over secured and encrypted SSL (Secure Sockets Layer),
ensuring the same level of security as online banks. The servers, on which Alchemer EU branch
operates, are based in Frankfurt, Germany. Therefore, all collected data will be stored at the data
centre in Frankfurt, Germany, and will not be transferred to any other locations. The Privacy
Statement of Alchemer outlines the data security measures the tool employs.
The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) or Microsoft Excel software will be employed
to analyse the collected data. Analysis will be carried out by PPMI, together with experts assigned
by and collaborating with PPMI, UNESCO and EI.
