Safety Information

Safety Notice Conventions

General Safety Information

CAUTION Risk of damage through incomplete file transfer


Any interruption during the file transfer of the software update procedure
may cause damage to the NAVIGAT 2200 sensor unit.
Do not touch any buttons during the file transfer. Make sure that the
power supply is not interrupted during the file transfer.

Note Service procedures are generally restricted to field service personnel


only.
Shipboard personnel is only allowed to perform certain service proce-
dures in case they have been appropriately trained and instructed by
Sperry Marine.

Note The software update procedure is limited to authorized service personnel


only. The personnel in charge must have sufficient knowledge of the
NAVIGAT 2200 system, the current issue of the NAVIGAT 2200 system
documentation, doc no. 056372 and the software update procedure itself.

Note It is mandatory for the service personnel in charge to act in accordance


to all safety information within the current issue of the NAVIGAT 2200
system documentation, doc no. 056372, before undertaking the software
update procedure.

Note At the end of the software update procedure, the service personnel is
obliged to send the log file and software update test protocol back to:

1: Introduction

This service manual gives all the information for the software update of
the NAVIGAT 2200 Fiber-Optic Gyrocompass and Attitude Reference
System.

The software update procedure of the NAVIGAT 2200 Gyrocompass is


described in part 2 of this service manual.

1.1 General Information

Note Sperry Marine recommends to install and execute the terminal program
on the PC/Notebook prior to service as preparation, before entering the
vessel and undertaking the software update procedure of the NAVIGAT
2200 sensor.

1.2 System Requirements

Note System requirements for the provided terminal program


TTERMPRO are:
PC/Notebook with a CD drive and serial interface (RS232 / external USB-
RS232-port and USB cable
Operating System: Windows 2000 or Windows XP or Windows 7.

1.3 NAVIGAT 2200 Upgrade Kit


Following equipment is part of the Sperry Marine NAVIGAT 2200
upgrade kit, stock no. 025974-0000-000.

• NAVIGAT 2200 Software Update CD, stock no. 056806-0000-000, with


terminal program TTERMPRO and software „lfk200_v2004.sre“
• RS232 download cable for connection to NAVIGAT 2200 connector
J2, stock no. 044176-0000-000.
• Software update test protocol, 005023-0125-003 (blank form).
The following equipment is not part of the NAVIGAT 2200 upgrade kit
but is needed for the software update procedure of the NAVIGAT 2200
System:

• PC/Notebook with a CD drive and serial interface (RS232) / external


USB-RS232-port and USB cable.

Note If the PC/Notebook does not have a serial interface, an external USB-
RS232-port and USB cable are needed to install a running RS232-inter-
face via the USB interface of the PC/Notebook (example shown in
Figure 1-1).

CAUTION Risk of damage through incomplete file transfer


Any interruption during the file transfer of the software update procedure
may cause damage to the NAVIGAT 2200 sensor unit.
Do not touch any buttons during the file transfer. Make sure that the
power supply is not interrupted during the file transfer.

Note The software update procedure is limited to authorized service personnel


only. The personnel in charge must have sufficient knowledge of the
NAVIGAT 2200 system, the current issue of the NAVIGAT 2200 system
documentation, doc no. 056372 and the software update procedure itself.

Note If an error occurs during the software update, the procedure has to be
repeated.
If the error persists, the NAVIGAT 2200 upgrade kit has to be replaced and
the complete procedure must be started anew.

Note It is mandatory for the service personnel in charge to act in accordance


to all safety information within the current issue of the NAVIGAT 2200
system manual, doc no. 056372, before undertaking the software update
procedure.

2.1 Preparation
Identify the stock no., revision, type and serial no. of the NAVIGAT 2200
and record all the information into the NAVIGAT 2200 software update
test protocol 5023-0125-03 in the appendix.

Check the housing of the NAVIGAT 2200 for visual damage and record
the result into the NAVIGAT 2200 software update test protocol.

Before the start of the software update, it is recommended to record the


current heading, pitch and roll data of the NAVIGAT 2200 Gyrocompass
into the NAVIGAT 2200 software update test protocol.

Note Make sure that the NAVIGAT 2200 upgrade kit, stock no. 025974-0000-
000, and a PC/Notebook with a CD drive and serial interface (RS232) /
USB-RS232-port are at place before starting the software update proce-
dure.

Installation of Terminal Program

An installed terminal program is needed for the software update. The


recommended terminal program is TTERMPRO, which is included on
the Software Update CD, stock no. 56806-0000-000.

Note Sperry Marine recommends to install and execute the terminal program
on the PC/Notebook prior to service as preparation, before entering the
vessel and undertaking the software update procedure of the NAVIGAT
2200 sensor.

For the installation of TTERMPRO:

1. Insert the NAVIGAT 2200 software update CD, stock no. 56806-0000-
000, into the CD drive.
2. Copy the complete folder LFK200V2004 from the CD and copy it to
the following directory e.g. C:\Programme\sw-download (or equiva-
lent).
3. Check the new folder for the following data:
– TTerm Macro File: „Download_sw1050_5100.ttl“
– Download BAT-File: „Download_sw1050_5100.bat“
– file 'comport.ini'
– file LFK-200_Installation.cmd
– icon 'SWDL.ico'
– subdirectory TTERMPRO with file ttermpro.exe
– subdirectory software: v2004 with file „lfk200_v2004.sre“

Note No installation procedure is needed for the TTERMPRO program.


For executing the program simply click on the file “ttermpro.exe” in the
subfolder TTERMPRO.

2.2 NAVIGAT 2200 Software Update Procedure

Load of S-Record file

1. Copy the S-Record file “lfk200_v2004.sre” from the directory on the


CD and store it on the desktop of the PC/notebook.
2. From the desktop create a link to ttermpro.exe.

Software Update Procedure

1. Install the RS232 download cable at the RS232 interface of the PC/
notebook / external USB-RS232-port
2. Install the USB cable and at the J2 connector of the NAVIGAT 2200
sensor unit.

Figure 2-1 shows the schematic connection of the components for the
software update procedure.

Note The installed CAU power supply connection of the NAVIGAT 2200 sensor
unit may stay unchanged for the software update procedure as shown in
figure 2-1.

Note In Figure 2-1 a connection via USB-RS232-Port is not shown.


If the PC/Notebook does not have a RS232 serial interface, an external
USB-RS232-port and USB cable are needed to install a running RS232-
interface via the USB interface of the PC/Notebook.

1. Take care that the CAU power supply is switched off.


2. Switch on the notebook and click on “ttermpro.exe” to execute the
terminal program.
 The download program starts.

 The following window is indicated in case the COM port number is


not correct:

3. Select button OK.


4. Go to „Setup / Serial port“ for the requested COM port settings:

5. Select a baud rate of 115200 (N1) and the other requested serial port
settings and press button OK.

 As the NAVIGAT 2200 sensor unit is not powered on, the following
window with no indication of points appears:

 The window with no indication of points is also shown, when the


baud rate setting is incorrect.
Return then, to step 5 to select the correct baud rate.

6. Switch on the CAU power supply of the NAVIGAT 2200 sensor unit.
 With the NAVIGAT 2200 sensor unit powered on and correct baud
rate setting, the following window with indication of points appears:

7. Remove the power cable connected to the NG2200 sensor and pre-
pare for pressing „Escape“ within 1 sec after reconnect the power
supply to proceed.
8. Reconnect the power supply and press „Escape“ within 1 sec. to
proceed.
 When correctly proceeded („Escape“ pressed within 1 sec. after
reconnection of power supply) the following window
with „LiNav=>“ indicated at the bottom line is indicated:

 When incorrectly proceeded (failed to press „Escape“ within 1 sec.


after reconnection of power supply) the following window is indi-
cated instead:

 In case the above window is indicated, return to step 8 to proceed


correctly.

9. Enter command "erase 1:16-31" to erase the current flash sector as


shown in figure 2-9:…

10. and press „Enter“.


 The following window is shown to indicate that the flash sectors has
been erased:

11. Enter command "loads" to load the flash sector as shown in


figure 2-11:…

12. and press „Enter“.


 The following window is shown to indicate that the program is ready
for download:

13. Drag and drop the SRE file on the indicated window shown in
figure 2-12.

 The following window is shown to indicate that download process is


initiated, highlighted by the „Bytes transferred“ indication and run-
ning points at the bottom line.

 With „LiNav=>“ indicated at the bottom line, the SRE-file download


has been successful, as shown the following window:

14. After successful download, enter "reset" as shown in figure 2-15:…

15. and press „Enter“.


After some seconds the program shall display "Main_state: opera-
tional...." as shown in figure 2-16 to indicate that the software update
procedure has been successfully finalized:

Note In case the „Main State: Operational“ window does not show up, the
upload has failed and the software update procedure must be repeated.

16. Select the option „Log...“, to create a log file, as shown in figure 2-17:

 The following window is shown to indicate, that the log file is auto-
matically created and stored in the Tera Term root directory:

17. Safe the log file and record it for the verification of the software
update as shown in figure 2-19:

18. After the software update is successfully finalized, switch off the
CAU power supply.
19. Switch on the CAU power supply.
 The sensor is performing a restart with complete realignment.

20. Wait until the alignment is completed.


Then record the new heading, pitch and roll data from the NAVIGAT
2200 system and verify against the recorded data before the start of
the software update.
21. To finish the software update procedure, the software update test
protocol must be completely filled in and signed from the service
personnel and the customer.
22. Send the log file and the software update test protocol back to
Sperry Marine.

Note At the end of the software update procedure, the service personnel is
obliged to send the log file and software update test protocol back to:
