To me, nursing is more than a career, it is instead displaying continuously devotion to our

patients. Those that we care for deserve the highest level of respect, dignity, and compassion

while our patient’s trust us to care for them. During the uncertain times of the pandemic, many of

the patients cannot have quests during this time. It was essential to make deeper connections with

all of my patients and be there for them beyond the baseline nursing care. I plan to have a

positive change amongst society by constantly reminding myself of why I choose this profession

and give my patients the best quality care possible. The reason why I entered the nursing

profession was to care for those who are experiencing a stressful and uncertain time. I wanted to

advocate for all of my patient’s wishes and their needs, no matter the request. From my personal

experience, my grandmother was in the hospital many times during my childhood due to her

eight-year battle with cancer. The most memorable times in the hospital occurred when my

family and I felt at our lowest points. When we were feeling at our lowest points with lots of

uncertainty, the nurses throughout the hospital stay made a constant effort to take the time to

explain what the plan of care was for my grandmother and made connections with her to fully

understand her wishes. I feel as though those connections are essential to make with our patients

and their families to demonstrate how much we care and that we want the best for them. These

practices are essential to start with in my career so I make positive habits that I can carry with me

throughout my nursing career. In the future, I plan to gain my patient’s trust and demonstrate

constant compassion to make the best connections with my patients. This is essential to my

practice as I want to have a major impact on my patients to have them remember that the health

care professionals were there for them when they are most vulnerable.
