League Of Legends: Team Fight Tactics

Throughout my whole life, I remember playing video games. Whether it was a story-

driven game or a game I play online, I would play games anytime I was able to. One game in

particular, I recently started to play. It’s called Team Fight Tactics, an auto chess game based off

the popular game called League of Legends. This was the first time I ever heard of “auto chess”

so the features that were in the gameplay brought new experience, but had the characters and

designs of League of Legends that brought familiarity with these new experiences. Team Fight

Tactics brings new things to the gaming world that are both beginner friendly and something

new that can make experienced players keep on playing. Team Fight Tactics brings people in

with its unique gameplay, seasonal rotations, original characters, although don't be fooled; with

these amazing features there are downsides that the game offers.

What is auto chess? Auto chess is a game where you buy different characters and place

them against other players' characters. The auto aspect is from the characters playing for you, as

in you don’t control what the characters do. With this in mind, these types of games are based on

a lot of luck and a bit of strategy.

In Team Fight Tactics, it’s not different. The game is divided into rounds, so you’ll have

rounds where you are up against AI monsters to gain items, other times you're choosing a

character to have on your team, but for the most part, you are going up against other people

online with their own team that they created with the characters they bought.

To keep the game interesting, the game has seasonal changes which change up the

characters that are available to use and a change, what each character has, called traits. Earlier I

mentioned that the game involved a bit of strategy, this is where the traits of each character help.

Traits give a passive upgrade to the characters stats, however, the way that traits are active is by

having a certain amount of characters with that exact same trait. By creating a team with

different traits that synergize with one another. Every season changes the character choice and

trait options that no season feels the same. It gives you more ways to experiment different ways

to create strong teams as well as new strategies.

The characters within this game are very unique in their own way. Team Fight Tactics

takes characters from their base game for you to use. Each character has their own style and

ways to stand out, whether that would be being a huge clunky robot who grabs people from a

meter away or a small little girl whose teddy bear turns into a real life bear who claws at its

enemies. To keep it interesting, every character within the game has their own backstories that

help you learn who they are and sometimes, how they relate to other characters. In addition to

the character designs, most characters get different “skins”, which changes their appearance in-

game. These “skins” could only change the color of their outfits or potentially change the overall

look of the character as well. With some “skins” they can add onto the characters backstories

which for some people, make them want to get them even more.

As the game has its seasonal change, the characters and traits that are available change

with it. This is where an issue occurs about whether or not the game is balanced, as in making

sure if every character and trait have both strengths and weaknesses that keep the game fair. As

of now, in the current season, the game isn’t entirely balanced. There are so many choices in

characters, traits, and item combinations you can create, that the amount of variety you have is

hard to fully balance the game to make it fair for everyone. The possibilities are endless so it can

be difficult for the creators of the game to fix certain issues, especially if their base game,

League of Legends, is more popular and not that balanced either.

Now remember, this is an “auto chess” game, which means that the game plays itself.

The only things you have control over are what characters you buy and where you place them on

your arena floor. Since the game plays itself, there’s a lot of luck built within the game. The shop

to buy characters is always randomized so you never know what you are going to get which

makes it harder to create the ideal team you want. Your characters will attack random enemies,

however, they usually tend to choose whoever’s the closest to them. This luck based part of the

game can really drive away people from playing this game, but for others, it makes it all the

more satisfying when you get the last character to create that team you worked so hard to make.

Team Fight Tactics is a very laid back game and the mechanics of the game are easy to

understand, even for beginners. It doesn’t take too much of your attention and if you never have

played an auto chess game before, this would be a good start. The features are very simple, but

the downside is that this game does heavily rely on luck so that can push people away from it as

well as how that affects making the game fair. Whether you're new or an experienced player,

Team Fight Tactics always has something that will peak your interest and I definitely

recommend playing.
