Interviewing a Professional Teacher in Teaching Multi-Grades Classes

Last April 20, 2021 at 8:44pm, I message the adviser of my son her name is Ms. Alice V.
Dacuno, Filipino and Araling Panlipunan Deparetment and a faculty member in Ateneo de Naga
Grade School Department and Grade 6 adviser. I ask her permission if I can take her to an
interview for my learning task. And then, she replying me in politeness way and she said yes but
she said that, if possible, to sending all the questions instead because she was so busy that time.
The following day I received her reply with the answers to all the questions.
According to teacher Alice, in the actual session, it is difficult to manage different
personalities and behaviors of the learners. Some learners have the tendency to be very active
while others tend to isolate themselves. But of course, these challenges only come in the
beginning. Because later on, pupils in all grade levels would eventually learn to work together
and help each other. And in her opportunities, she said that, became the club moderator in
“Lahing Pinoy” in their school is the one of her opportunities that she gets. Also, she said that it
is a good opportunity for them to interact with pupils younger or older than them.
In balancing her time in preparation of several preparations and adjust in different levels
of learners, she will make sure that she prepared various activities depending on the needs and
capabilities of the learners. And she said that supervising in different levels of learners is a
challenging part but through this she will be able to identify her student’ interest, goals, strengths
and weaknesses, etc. which made it easier for her to choose activities that were best suited for
them.
In sustaining her engagement with students despite the varied year level, she said that at
first, she will be giving them activities wherein they can slowly come out of their comfort zoned
and be confident about themselves. And she will give them opportunities to participate gradually.
To sustain their interest in discussion it is important to make them feel validated.
As a future teacher in teaching multi-grade classes, I learned a lot from experiences that
shared by teacher Alice. It is easy to me to know what should I do to handle in different year level
of the learners. And also, I can use some tips or her strategy to my future students that she
shared. I know that teaching multi-grades classes is not easy but, in my dedication, to teach, I
know that there is no impossible if you really love your profession and has a passion on it.
Specially, God will always guide us to make us dream come true and to make us successful in this
profession.
