Week #3

My third week of my internship has felt more successful than the previous two weeks.

Not to say that the first two weeks were unsuccessful, but I feel like I am actually starting to get

into the more interactive and meaningful work. I’ve also gotten more into my routine and getting

a good idea of how things will go for the remainder of the semester.

For most of this week I have been virtual. I only go into the Women’s Center in person

two days out of the week (Tuesdays and Thursdays). The rest of the week I work from home, but

this week I finally started to feel that I was not just doing work of a typical academic student. I

have started to feel more like an intern, which is an exciting change of pace for me. I think the

main shift that has caused me to feel this way is that now that we have gotten through the

introductory things and have started to get more into the work we will be doing with our teams.

As I’ve mentioned in previous journal entries, I have been assigned to an inclusive sex

education team as well as to a group that will be planning and working an event for sexual

assault awareness month. I had meetings with both of these teams this week again. In both

meetings, we focused heavily on brainstorming ideas that we could start working on. In my

sexual assault awareness meeting, we were considering things like a take back the night march

and/or a denim day to bring awareness to sexual assault and the unfortunate prevalence of victim

blaming. These events would be in April so we will be in the planning stages for quite a while. In

my other team meeting though, things are much more fast-paced, which honestly has me feeling

a little apprehensive and anxious, but also excited to accomplish things sooner. In this team, we

want to take on the project of cultivating a video library of comprehensive and inclusive sex

education videos. This week each of us will be working on a video topic and fleshing out what

our vision is for the video topic we chose. As I mentioned in my discussion post, I will be
working on one that discusses a particular pdf that is intended to be used by sexual partners to

discuss what each of them is comfortable with participating in, so as to make sure consent is

thoroughly established and to facilitate creating open dialogue between sexual partners. We have

yet to meet with our supervisor(s) to discuss how they would like us to distribute these videos, so

I suspect this coming week will be heavily focused on establishing the logistics of this project.

Overall, I’m excited to start this project.
