This week began with quite a rough start. On Monday, I woke up very sick and was
exhibiting symptoms of covid-19. Truthfully, this was the most sick I can remember being in
several years, all of this to say that this week was not my most productive week at my internship.
Although I was very sick, I couldn’t afford not to do my work for my internship site this
week. It has definitely been a challenge, but this week my Sexual Assault Awareness Month
team had our biggest events of the semester, the Take Back the Night march. In preparation for
this event, and for the sake of promoting the event, the team tabled on campus two days this
week. Prior to tabling, we had all worked on making a variety of several buttons to give out to
people that came by the table. Unfortunately, I have been quarantined by the school and by my
doctor, so I could not assist with the tabling or attend the event, which I actually was really
looking forward to. After all the work I had put into helping plan and prepare for this event, it
felt very frustrating and unfair not to get to attend. This march was about supporting sexual
assault survivors and displaying our right to “take back the night” and refuse victim blaming. It
is a very powerful event that hits very close to home for me and I would have loved to get to be
there as I had planned. However, I do feel like I did as much as I possibly could to help do my
part in promoting the event while I am working from home in quarantine. It’s just a bit upsetting
not to have gotten to see this event we’ve all been planning for so long come to fruition. My
teammates informed me that there was a pretty decent turn out for the march though. There were
about 25 attendees at Take Back the Night, which is a pretty good number due to the sensitive
nature of the topic and the fact that it might be a trigger for some people. While, I’m frustrated
with being quarantined and distanced from my teammates, I am really quite pleased and proud of
my team and the fact that we accomplished what we intended to accomplish with this event.
