The problem
In 2007 the NZTA and Tauranga City Council agreed the traffic flow from Cameron Road
to the Maungatapu and Hairini roundabouts needed to be improved.

The answer
Four possible solutions were identified:

2008 - signalising roundabouts 2010 - 15th Avenue / Fraser Street

The first part of the process was to signalise the
Maungatapu and Hairini roundabouts. These
were commissioned in December 2008 and are
working well.
intersection upgrade
The second part was improving pedestrian and cyclist
safety and improving intersection traffic flows. The
upgrade was completed in March 2011 and has made
a significant improvement on the route.

The investigations identified this project is and issues at Maungatapu
not required in the short to medium term.
