1 Applied English Technical Education

What’s Technical Education?

A kind of education which equips with skills (Civil, electrical, mechanical,

auto engineering and many other branches of industry are part of technical
education.) that involve the use of practical approaches and other physical
instruments in executing projects.
The special job-oriented training given to somebody based on practical use
of machinery for industries is technical education. Hence, it is such a practical skill
development course that teaches a student how to use scientific equipment or
machines in our daily life.

"The object of education is to prepare the young

to educate themselves throughout their lives."

Robert M. Hutchins
Importance

Technical education is entirely different from general education. Technical

and vocational colleges place an emphasis on career-focused, hands-on training in a
certain trade or technical skill. General colleges, however, tend to provide more
theoretical experience and graduates are typically less prepared to enter the
workforce. It also helps in training of character. In other words, vocational education
prepares students for specific jobs.

Technical education is really important because it teach you skills that are
vital for poverty reduction, economic recovery and sustainable development.
Technical Education imparts knowledge of specific trade, craft or profession. With
the help of this, you can gain more knowledge and understanding.
Advantages & Disadvantages
Technical training makes people skilled so that they may be able to handle
machineries properly for industries. An industry is a back boon of a country for
development. No progress is possible without progress in industry. If we want to
improve our industries, then we promote the technical education firstly. There are
certain jobs that cannot be performed well unless having technical education.
If a country owns sufficient technical hands with full of skills, it undoubtedly
accelerates the pace of development. Technical hands cannot be unemployed. On
the other hand, technical hands do not need to request others for jobs, if they start
their own business; they can provide job opportunities to other educated people as
well. Thus technical education helps us to reduce the problem of unemployment.
"I had to gain experience as I did not have a technical education."
Mikhail Kalashnikov
Along with the advantages of technical education, there are a few
disadvantages as well. Technically trained men work like machines. They don't have
many opportunities of character training. Thus they may ignore values of life. A

disadvantage to vocational education is the low score when it comes to job

competition against applicants having a traditional college degree.
How to promote Technical Education?

The above discussion shows that Technical education is a must for the
developing and underdeveloped countries. But when we look towards our own
country Pakistan, we feel that this side has been ignored. Because of
the lack of technical education, we are facing the great problem of
unemployment.
The government should increase funds for TVET institutes and skill
development and training schemes in the federal and provincial budgets.

In order to enhance the scope of higher education for TVET graduates, at least
one technical education university should be established in each province.

For technical diplomas, the Higher Education Commission should introduce

degree equivalence so that TVET graduates can get easier access to job
opportunities in government and private organizations.
The above-mentioned reforms in TVET will not only improve the vocational
training system but also increase the earning capacity of our youth while decreasing
unemployment and contributing to poverty reduction.
