Review of related literature

According to Ustun, Ahmet Berk; Tracey, Monica Walch, Higher education


frequently uses online learning, but it has drawbacks. As a result, blended learning (BL)
has emerged as a viable option for overcoming the drawbacks of online education. The goal
of this design-based research study was to see what elements were required to help a higher
education instructor who had never designed or taught a BL course create and implement
one. Furthermore, through three iterative design cycles, the instructor was able to shift
from a passive to an active teaching approach, and the students were able to become active
and interactive learners as a result of the design and implementation of BL. Despite the
challenges, they had a generally positive attitude toward teaching the BL course.

American Association for Adult and Continuing Education, Paper presented at the
American Association for Adult and Continuing Education 2020 Conference (Online, Oct
27-30, 2020) states that, As a temporary solution, classroom teaching has necessitated being
solely available online. The goal of this research is to learn more about the current role of
effective distance learning practices in adult and higher education. There will be a focus on
research findings and faculty case studies relating to personal and adult educational
experiences. The study will look at how recent events, such as the pandemic, have affected
distance learning and pedagogical practices. Topics for discussion will be provided for best
practices in distance education for adult learners through faculty case stories and data
analysis.

Although online distance education allows adult learners to continue their education
throughout their lives, there are still barriers that prevent them from participating in
educational activities. The goal of this research is to examine the challenges that adult
learners face in online distance education through a review of the literature.

Learning Administration, v19 n3 Fall 2016) said that, “As distance education (DE) enters
its fourth generation, universities must consider how to keep up with this ever-changing
delivery method. Academics must navigate a competitive marketplace that includes for-
profit entities, open-source depositories, and an increasing number of non-profit
universities. Rather than focusing on distance education implementation, this study aims to
identify success factors for DE evolution and sustainability in non-profit, public four-year
institutions. It looks into the factors that can be influenced directly by administration and
faculty in order to foster a culture that supports high-quality DE.”
