Time Learning Task Methods or Procedures


1 Warm-Up In the first box of the worksheet, have
the students respond to the following
prompt: What do you know about dance
and/or skating?
While they are writing, a few students
may volunteer and share their ideas
with the entire class.
2 Risky Business Clip - Jazz/Pop Play the first video in the PowerPoint.
Culture Example Afterwards, guide the class through a
brief analysis of the clip.
Possible things to consider: pop culture
references, costumes, sets, lighting,
music.
Students should answer the following
question in the second box on their
worksheets: What do you think of when
you watch this clip?
NOTE: Make sure to use general
vocabulary (no specific technical terms)
2 Anchor Clip - Lyrical Example Play the second video in the
PowerPoint. Afterwards, guide the class
through a brief analysis of the clip.
Possible things to consider: staging,
music, lighting, emotions.
Students should answer the following
question in the third box on their
worksheets: How does this performance
make you feel?
5 Watch Elastic Heart - first time Play the third video in the PowerPoint.
Students will write notes on their
graphic organizers while watching the
video. Afterwards, guide the class
through an analysis of the clip. Write
their suggestions on the whiteboard.
Possible things to consider: first
impressions, facials, partners, emotions,
a little bit of choreo - try to identify the
story/theme.
3 Watch Elastic Heart - second Play the third video in the PowerPoint.
time Students will write notes on their
graphic organizers while watching the
video. Afterwards, students will analyze
the clip in groups. Walk around and
engage in group conversations about
the text, posing questions and/or
adding suggestions.
Possible things to consider: music,
costumes, sets, lighting, more specific
choreo details.
5 Watch Perfect Play the fourth video in the PowerPoint.
Explain that this video is a way for the
students to apply the skills they learned
about analyzing dance to another genre
of movement. Students will write notes
on their graphic organizers while
watching the video. Afterwards,
students will analyze the clip in groups.
If there is limited time, do the analysis
as a whole class.
