Republic Bank has provided financial assistance to the GCA Under-19 Inter-Parish Cricket
Competition, which they see as supporting the development of youth cricketing talent in
Grenada. The bank has supported the GCA for over 5 years and has produced noteworthy
achievements, with several players moving on to compete at the regional and international (U19

of the newly elected executive of Cricket West Indies (CWI), in four areas in Grenada; Progress
Park in St Andrew, River Sallee Playing Field in St. Patrick’s, Non Periel in St. Mark and the
National Stadium in St. George’s. The former Senior Cricket Coach in the Ministry of Sports
would like all the cricketing councils of Grenada to reach out to the young people of Grenada,
especially within the age of 7-13 to embrace just about any child that wishes to get involved in
the game of cricket.

Grenada’s super heavyweight boxing champion Andy Christopher Andall along with his coach
Sebastian Steill left the country to participate in he 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships in
Yekaterinburg, Russia taking place from September 9 -21, 2019. Andall attended a six weeks
training from Trinidad and Tobago with courtesy The National Lotteries Authority and The
Grenada Co-operative Bank. Apart from the competition the boxer and coach will be able learn a
lot from experienced which will be given to them which may have a positive externality on Team
Grenada’s participation and performance in the upcoming Caribbean Boxing Championships.

travelling to Russia according to the title; “Local Heavyweight Boxer Off To Russia.” The
passage then states that Andall has just returned from Trinidad and Tobago, where he attended a

Summary
Grenada’s Senior Men’s National Team will be elevating to the Confederation of North, Central
American and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) Nations League group stage when
they meet St. Kitts and Nevis on Thursday 5th September 2019 at the Kirani James Athletics
Stadium. The team was qualified to be in league B after the played 4 matches and won 2 matches
placing them 21st in the Concacaf Nations League standings during the qualifying rounds.
Analysis
The title of the article “Grenada Plays their First match in group phase in Concacaf Nations
League” gives the public the thinking that Grenada seniors will be playing it first match in the
Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football. In the passage it
states that ‘four (4) matches and won two (2) placing them 21st in the Concacaf Nations League
standings during the qualifying rounds’. Therefore in order to be in a league you would have to
play 4 matches and the more matches won the team will be place in a higher league.
Article 5:
Summary
Anderson Peter a former student at the St. David Catholic Secondary School become the island’s
first gold medalist at the 2019 IAAF World Athletic Championship in Doha Qatar with a throw
of 86.89 in the men’s javelin event on his fourth attempt. Peter was very grateful for this
opportunity he got, based on what the media had gathered from him.
Analysis
The article is saying a past student of the St. David Catholic Secondary School has represented
Grenada well in the 2019 IAAF World Athletic Championship in Doha Qatar placing first in the
javelin event after some attempts. The newspaper article states that “The young Grenadian who
admitted to the international media that part of his early years was spent throwing rocks at
mangoes and golden apples defeated a cast of seasoned campaigners in the javelin event.” This
tells the readers that Anderson Peter had a passion for throwing which in the end became very
beneficial in his sporting life.
