Your friend Luke from New York City is visiting this

weekend. You know he is very outdoorsy, but he
doesn’t get to do many activities because he
lives in the city. As a class, plan a camping trip for
your weekend together.

Think about:

- Where will you go?

- What outdoorsy activities will you do?
- What will you pack?
- Will the weather affect your plans?
Answer me this!
Take turns asking each other questions.

1. Are there any outdoor activities you have wanted to

try? Why does it appeal to you? Do you need any
special training before you can participate in it?
Answer
2. What outdoor activity would you never try? Why? me this!
3. Describe your perfect weekend.

4. What are the most popular outdoor activities in your

country. Why are they so popular?

5. Do you think it is important to spend time outdoors?

Why or why not?
Before you go!
Here’s some cultural fun:

There are many benefits to spending time

outside. Studies link spending time in nature to
improved attention spans. Studies also show that
being outside boosts serotonin (the feel-good
neurotransmitter) and increases activity in the
parts of the brain responsible for empathy,
emotional stability and love.

The US government hopes to encourage outdoor

activities with Nature Rocks. Nature Rocks is a
national program that inspires and empowers
families to play and explore in nature.

- Do you spend enough time outdoors? Why or why

not?
- How do you feel after spending time in nature?
- Are there any programs in your country that inspire
people to go outside?
