Monday 2/1 To start the week we began with the discussion between
federalists and anti-federalists as well as their differences. We go
further into depth about The Constitutional Convention and what
occurred just after the revolutionary war. Then after we talked
about the different Leaders of convention such as George
Washington and James Madison. The men who wrote the United
States Constitution are known to this day as the “Founding
Fathers.” They wanted to have a strong national government while
also maintaining a strong local government.

Tuesday 2/2 We started Government today by watching an informational

video about the film “Green Book.” The man discusses the era of
segregation where African-Americans had to carry a book with
them when they went to the south. This book was to “keep them
safe” and gave them certain areas that were okay for them to stay.
What they found was that most of the areas that
African-Americans were allowed to stay were run down. A
common problem is that many times in films such as this one the
black character gets pushed to the side. With a “white savior”
there to save the day, this points out that there are never really
truly black main characters.
Constitution Questions
1. They distributed power in the constitution because they
were literally afraid that only one person had too much
power. To fix this they had multiple people in power and
they only allowed presidents to lead in 4 year terms.
2. Enumerated powers are those directly stated within the
United States constitution. Implied powers are those not
specifically listed in the constitution but the government
can claim is part of governing responsibility.
3. Having powers and responsibilities split between different
branches reflects the founders belief of the importance of
the legislature in a representative democracy. The
legislative branch creates laws and establishes federal
courts, executive enforces laws and negotiates treaties, and
Judicial interprets laws and rules on cases between states.

Wednesday 2/3 1.Explain the significance of Beale St. to both African

American and white communities in the 1900s.
Both the African American and white community held carnivals
and brought life to the city of Memphis.
2.Describe how Memphis evolved from its foundation through the
20th century.
Through the 20th century Memphis began to expand out its inner
city while people moved out of the area. 3.Explain
why the Constitution is difficult to Amend or change? The
founders did not want random changes and they wanted to make
sure everyone agrees to any changes that are made. 4.Which two
Amendments strengthened the new national government?
The Two Amendments that strengthen the new national
government was the 9th and 10th Amendments.
5.Which Amendment gave African Americans the right to vote
and which Amendment gave women the right to vote?
The 15th amendment gave African Americans the right to vote and
the 19th amendment gave women the right to vote. 6.Which
Amendment banned poll taxes? Why would having tax to vote be
considered anti-democratic? The 24th
amendment banned poll taxes. It is considered anti-democratic
because every American citizen deserves equality and liberty and
charging them to vote is not considered fair.
