A Semester of Writing

A semester of writing is not just that, it is a semester of conveying my point of view on

topics that may or may not be in other people’s interest. It has also been a semester of learning

about other people's interests and opinions. Writing essays and short answer responses before

entering this class was horrible, but they have improved over the course of this school year with

me being on composition.

Composition has helped me in so many ways, in my vocabulary, thesis statement, and

structuring my essay. These are only a few things that I have struggled with throughout all my

writings in school. Professor fountain has always been helpful when she marks my errors in my

essay. Those errors have helped me improve my writing by fixing them, but also by learning

from them and not implementing them in future writings. I have also known that my thesis was

not good at all. That was because I could never understand how to correctly write one even

though they would explain it to me every single year, it just would not get stuck in my head.

Professor Fountain did something different, she not only explained how to people write one, but

she also showed an example of how it should be written. Although my thesis statement might not

always be perfect, I will forever use the format she gave in her lecture that helped me

tremendously.

I have to confess that I am the biggest procrastinator there is possibly out there, and it is

because I get drawn away very easily and eventually lose track of time. Composition has been

different. Professor fountain has always let us choose the topic of outlet essays which is probably

the reason why I enjoy writing. She just lets us express our feelings about the topic as if we were

ranting but in a more educated format. This way I genuinely enjoy writing my essay, because

what started as me looking at the assignment and then being distracted by anything else end up in

a conversation between me, my brain thinking, my phone is the one I am talking to, my fingers

typing it out, and eventually with my professor. At this point, the time has flown by without even

me noticing, such as what I am doing right now. It is the cycle I lived by this whole year. This is

also the method I have used throughout this year that has allowed me to write my essay with

every single word required.

Not only this semester but this year has been filled with learning experiences that have

improved my writing skills. Learning virtually at a distance was hard but I had to make the best

out of it. And although my writing is not perfect, this class has taught me important techniques

that have helped. Last but not least, thank you professor fountain for sharing your knowledge and

having the patience to answer all my questions, and explaining to me certain instructions I did

not understand. It was an amazing learning experience even from a distance.
