My Father’s Job

A farmer is a person engaged in agricultural production like raising live stocks for food
or raw materials. Farmers are responsible for all crops and live stocks that are needed for us
to survive. Without food, the world would eventually die, and farmers work hard every day to
keep plenty of crops and animal products in the market to keep that from happening.
My father is a farmer by profession. He has been in the profession for the last twenty
years. He has got farms in some different places and a rice field here in the village. He hired
3 men to help him at the farm because he is too old to work alone. He was born on 1958,
which means he is 63 years old now. He used to be a chairman of our village here in North
Konawe for 10 years.
My father is not really a busy man. He hires two people to take care of the rice fields. He
usually comes home in the afternoon but sometimes he stays at the farm for some nights. He
takes some men to work with him and stay at the farm. He sometimes comes home with
vegetables that he picked from there, such as, spinach, okra plant, coconut and many more.
He does not really have a high income, but it is enough for us that we could have enough to
eat to live healthy and we do not have to buy rice anymore because we have rice fields. Not
only a farmer, but my father is also an Imam of our mosque here, he gets paid every three
months.
He is a simple, quiet and a hard working person. He does not really talk, he only talks
when it is needed. But he loves to socialize with people, give what he has to others and do
good deeds. He never gets tired of working, even in his old age. He loves working at the
farm, not only to make money, but also to be relaxed and be with nature.
There is nothing simpler, healthier, more peaceful, and more fulfilling than to be with
nature. For me, being a producer (farmer) is the best profession one should choose.
