Strategic Information System

Answers of the Politicians Moving Strategically case study:

Question1. Identify the strategy of each political party for the purpose of elections.
Ans. To get the attention of the voters each political party uses the electronic media which is
social media, data analytics and information systems. They strategies their campaigns and try to
get the attention of the voters as they know youth is using social media too much so they start
using these platforms. Social media platforms like facebook, snapchat, instagram, twitter etc,
they use to post the messages, photos and tweets. This helps the voters to know what their
political leaders are doing for the welfare of the society.

Question2. Do you think the use of social media by both the political party and voters
varies with countries? Justify your answer.

Ans. Yes it is varies with the countries because the level of mindset is different in the different
countries for example the people who are living in the US or UK as compare to Indian people.
The users of the social media are less in the foreign country as compare to the India. In India the
social media handle is used by the team of the leaders what they are posting is not their views or
feelings but in the foreign country leaders uses their own social media accounts post things by
themselves. So we can say that the use of social media by both the political party and voters
varies with the countries.

Question3. How social media enables the political parties to secure the general elections?

Ans. Social media helps the political parties in many ways with the help of social media they
convey their messages to the voters. Post everything what they are doing for the benefit of the
country. In India 2014 general Lok Sabha Election conducted from there they get to know their
wider voter base is using social media from that result the strategy of the BJP Government to
start a campaign on the social media they use two fold strategies one is at public level and one is
at volunteer or Karyakarta level At the public level, social media platforms such Facebook,
Twitter, etc. were widely used to show achievements of Narendra Modi and other BJP
candidates, bulk SMS and messages were sent each day and WhatsApp messenger groups too
were utilized for information sharing. At the volunteer level, a distribution list of all party
volunteers was created in emails, mobiles, WhatsApp groups and each day they were sent
informative and inspiring messages. It is predicted through this strategy that Narendra Modi is
the clear winner.

In U.K and U.S. they us the various videos to get the attention of the people and these videos
helps to encourage these people to vote for the growth of the country and they express their
speeches on the social media. This helps in the secure the general election of the political parties.

Question4. From your understanding of the text and facts presented in the case. Discuss
how strategy determined the information needs?

Ans. The fact which is presented in this case tells us that if we want to make any strategy we
need some information related to our subject. Information is necessary for making any type of
strategy or strategic decision. If we have a data we can easily strategies our work. In this case
they have a data of the voters who are using the social media and they exactly did right thing to
approach the people on social media with the help of data analytics.

Question5. Use the Internet to search for use of social media by other parties in India.
What were the possible causes of their failure despite use of digital techniques?

Ans. The power of political communication isn’t a new phenomenon. Speeches, social media
posts, media interviews, slogans, manifestos and advertisements every component of political
communication leaves a huge impression in the minds of voters, influencing voting behavior.
Other parties in India also use the social media but they fail to create a image in the eyes of
Indian peoples. Because in the social media post other parties focusing in showing the bad side
of the BJP government but BJP government is focusing only to show their achievements and
works what they are doing for welfare promoting their schemes etc.

Narendra Modi’s connect with the masses became stronger with compelling precision reflected
in catchphrases like 'Acche Din Aane Wale Hain', 'Ab Ki Baar Modi Sarkar' and 'Har Har Modi
Ghar Ghar Modi'. The last one was particularly aimed at Hindus for it reminds of the much-loved
Hindu chant 'Har Har Mahadev'. Besides his terrific choice of keywords like 'Gareebon ke
Massiah', his choice of rants also helped him create his story. From Congress being a corrupt
party or the UPA’s failure to take a stance on Kashmir and Pakistan, all of this was smartly
included in the BJP’s election campaign, touching a common Indian’s nerve. Much before the
Congress lost to the BJP in 2014, the public has been seeing the Congress through Narendra
Modi’s eyes he has successfully labeled the Congress as a corrupt, anti-national, anti-Hindu
party, and a dynasty-driven party. But what has hurt the Congress most is its inability to change
these four perceptions in the past five years. Miscommunication is the root cause of this inability.
The Congress was pretty late in understanding the power of social media. The resurgent
Congress social media in 2017, under their new social media head, had the wrong focus. A look
at Narendra Modi’s timeline or the BJP’s timeline will reveal that almost 99% of their messaging
is about Modi, his welfare schemes and his vision. Now, when you compare this with the
Congress party’s or its leaders’ timelines on social media, almost 99% of their messaging
revolves around Narendra Modi.

These are the reason of the failure of political parties despite the use of the social media.
