CLOSURE UNIT 1

Name: Eduardo De Sena Bernal

1- VEGETATIVE REPRODUCTION ACTIVITY

1) Add an image from the begging of the experiment

2) Add an image from today

Sweet potato Ivy plant

Before Before
After After

3) Make a comparison between both plants growth

Potato: On the sweet potato after a while in water it grew leaves, it turned brown (lost its color)
and grew a kind of root on it. _____________________________
Ivy plant: On the ivy plant, we can see that it has grown many roots, these plants have grown,
created new leaves and become bigger. ________________________

4) How could you match the plants characteristics to develop a plant with the beautiful light
green leaves from the Ivy plant and a fast growth rate such as the sweet potato one?

Ivy Plants: The ivy plants grow slower the leaf than the sweet potato, we can see this because
in the experiment the ivy plant grew the leaf slower than the sweet potato. We can also see
that the ivy plant grew the root faster than the sweet potato because in the photos we can see
that the roots of the ivy are bigger than the potato root.

Sweet Potato: We can that in the sweet potato the leaf grew faster than the ivy plant because
in the photos the leaf from the potato is bigger than the leaf of the ivy plant. We can see that
the root of the sweet potato are smaller than the root of the ivy plant because in the photos the
roots are bigger in the ivy plant.

2- Putting ideas together

A) Create a concept map that illustrates your understanding of the following terms and how
they relate to reproduction.

• mitosis
• heredity
• meiosis
• characteristics
• gametes
• traits
• eggs
• DNA
• sperm
• genes
• asexual reproduction
• sexual reproduction

Concept map

Mitosis: Mitosis is a process in which a cell divides into two identical cells (cell division).
Heredity: Heredity means genetic heritage sent by biological parents. That's why we will show
them!
B) Explain how the three Big Ideas are related. You can write a description, use a concept
map, or draw an illustration to show the relationships.

1- Cell division occurs in both asexual and sexual reproduction.

2- Genetic information is passed from parent to offspring.
3- The process of human reproduction can be affected by technology.
