Unconfined Compression Test
Introduction

• The unconfined compression test is by far the most popular

method of soil shear testing because it is one of the fastest and
cheapest methods of measuring shear strength.

• This test method covers the determination of the unconfined

compressive strength of cohesive soil in the undisturbed,
remolded, or compacted condition, using strain-controlled
application of the axial load.
Unconfined Compression Test
Objective

• To determine the unconfined compression strength of fine grained

soil.

• The purpose of the test is to determine a quantitative value of

compressive and shearing strength of soils in an undrained state.
