Block Letter Names

Focus Skill: Volume & Perimeter

TEKS 5(6)(B): The student applies mathematical process standards to understand, recognize,
and quantify volume.
The student is expected to determine the volume of a rectangular prism with whole number side
lengths in problems related to the number of layers times the number of unit cubes in the area
of the base.

Materials: Graph paper, construction paper, pencils, and colored pencils.

Directions:
1. Gather in pairs or small groups of threes.
2. Lightly trace your name in pencil on graph paper.
3. Find the measurements for each side length, by counting the unit cubes.
4. Once all letters are calculated, total them and record the area and perimeter at the
bottom of the page.
5. Trace and color the letters.
