Theme and Topic:

My chosen theme and topic is about a man who is working in a stockbroker firm up in London and makes a bad
sale and loses his clients money. After he has done this he goes through serious mental health problems and
my story board tells us about his story.

Purpose:

The purpose of my film is to raise awareness for men’s mental health and how majority of men in the UK go
through serious mental health issues by themselves because they have been taught to man up and keep it to
themselves. I aim to get people who watch this film to regularly check up on your friends and family and make
sure that they are okay and make sure that they don’t have to suffer in silence and make sure that they know
that there is always someone that cares about them and that they are loved and if they are going through
anything they know that you are there for them to talk to. My target audience will manly be men because it is
a male character that is going through mental health issues and let them know that they don’t have to suffer in
silence. The target age will be 16–28-year-olds because these are the ages that are most suffering in the UK.

Target Audience Justification:

The reason why I have selected this target audience is because after I have done my research these are the
main ages that are suffering from serious mental health issues in the UK and instead of talking to someone
they are suffering in silence and deciding not to tell anyone because they think that just because they are men
they should keep it to themselves and not burden other people with their issues. This movie shows young
people that they don’t have to suffer by themselves and that there is help out there.

Primary Research: My primary research was that I asked 15 men if they have been going through mental
health issues and if they have ever spoken to anyone about it. The results was that 14/15 men have not
spoken about their mental health issues and that they have just buried it and got on with the rest of their day
or work and have not burdened anyone with their problems because they are supposed to be manly and not
make people feel sorry for them.

Secondary Research: my secondary research has been men’s mental health UK which is a YouTube channel
who makes videos making sure that men who are going through mental health issues know that if they are
going through mental health issues that they are not alone and if anyone is suffering they have professionals
on standby for them to talk to and even if they just need a chat they will sit there and listen to them and hear
their struggles and give them advice on how to get through this difficult patch that they are going through and
let them know that it does not last forever and with the right help and guidance they will come through and
feel so much better about themselves and they will put the problems that life has thrown at them behind them
and use it to make them a better person and build on it to make them the best that they can be. They have
publicly announced that they have helped over 100,000 men in the UK and they are not stopping no matter
who you are you deserve to be heard and suicide should never ever be a resolution for anything.

How will your production meet the needs found in my research:

My production will meet the needs found in the research because it will tell the story of a man who is going
through mental health issues and does not speak to anyone about it and sits in silence because he was told to
always be a man and not burden people with his issues. This will have an impact because towards the end he is
on the verge of suicide until he talk to his friends and tells them that he is not actually okay and he is suffering.
After talking to his friends about his issues he starts the road to recovery and makes himself feel a lot better
this will reach young men around the UK to tell them that it is okay to talk about your feeling and that you
should never bury them and that suicide should never ever be an option.
