1.

According to the Oxford Dictionary, ethics is a “moral” principles that deals with the behavior of an
individual. It is concerned on what is good for the individual and the society. So where did ethics came
from?

Ethics come from our environment, society and from collective beliefs. Ethics are first taught at home by
our parents. As ethics is based on defining the standards of what is right and wrong, from our early
childhood our parents have teaches us the basic yet fundamental concept of what is right and wrong
wherein it molded our character. One example of ethics taught by our parents is being honest at all
times. Ethics also came from our learning experience as we continue to grow. Our experiences continue
to shape and mold our ethics. From here also, we get to experience the consequences of having the
wrong or bad choices. Our ethics might also be influenced by the society like the people around us, our
religion, our idols, friends and many more.

2-3. I consider myself ethical in a way that I know what is right and wrong. Although I am picking the bad
choice most of the time, I use it as a stepping guide for my character. And as long as I do not harm or
violates the right of a person, I am ethical. I am not perfect, I get angry, tired or lazy but it does not
mean that I am unethical. Being an ethical person is different from being perfect.

4. Ethics is situational. As the famous line in the accounting, “it depends upon the situation”, so is ethics.
It cannot be absolute as every situation is different. Example is a certain case filed in the court, even
though they have similar violations, what the court sentenced to each of them is different.

Every case is different and unique. What is right in a situation may be wrong to the other situation. And
thus, we must have the knowledge to foresee, calculate, and decide what moral principles we shoulds
apply.

5. The business did not just exist to satisfy the needs of its owner solely, but also to satisfy the needs of
the society. It is a give and take effect. Example is the company of power supply, we need electricity and
we pay for the benefit of having it. Another example is the company of transportation like buses or
cargo. They did not simply exist because they want to, but because they know that the society needs
them.

1. Providing many people with jobs in a town where employment is not easy to find, yet
destructing the ecosystem and the health of people who lived near the river does not make the
business worthy of the title “responsible corporate citizen”. Being the company that provides
many jobs for the people in the town is not an excuse for the company to ignore the by-
products that have flown into the river causing illnesses to residents near the river. It is like
feeding the other side of the society yet hurting the other side.

As for the state law, yes the by-product itself may be harmless but it being flown into the river is
another thing. The company should make adjustments and/o policy regarding the by-products,
even though they don’t violate any state law. Integrity is the quality of having strong ethical or
moral principles and following them at all times, no matter who's watching.
2. The brain is placed above the heart which means we should not allow our feelings rule over us
as our feelings always changed depending on what happens around us. The mother-in-law did
not follow not only the stated will but also her promise to his daughter-in-law that she would
comply to what she wishes for. Yes, she may be in grief and she wants to keep the ashes near
her, but it is not an excuse for her to break the promise. The mother in law does not act with
integrity after her daughter-in-law dies.
Having that simple wish not granted for and having that illegal activity not being discovered of
will make the mother-in-law confident to break another promise.

3. Although the teacher deleted immediately the test with answer key, it is also his fault that he
did not make any action regarding the case. Like asking the students if anyone has already seen
or downloaded the file. And since the teacher did not ask such question thinking no one has
downloaded or seen yet the file, then it is now up to the student whether he will act with
integrity or not. Another fault of the teacher is for making the course so hard to pass that
students wants to cheats just to pass. He should create a healthy environment with his class
wherein it would mold them to act with integrity.
There will be two scenarios that would happen with the student; to act with integrity or to
cheat. Should he act with integrity, he would feel his values and character being refreshed.
Should he choose to cheat, he would just want to keep on cheating not only to that subject but
also to other just so to pass. Yet, although none of the teacher nor his fellow students know
about what happen, the students should act with integrity and follow their Student’s Ethics to
continue to uphold his value, whether rewarded with incentives or not.

4. Reputation should not be tarnished by money. The change should start with her. Since before
the settlement, she has heard what the executives have done it before to other women, she
should uphold her reputation and values, not just for herself but also for the sake of other
employee in the future or for those who do not have the courage to speak and testify yet. Yes,
she may lose the job and the big chunk of money from settlement but she can still find a job in
another company where she will not be traumatized by what happened to her and still
continuing to work with that executive. She should finished what should have done before, by
filing a lawsuit against the executives and getting him out of the company.
